An Infinite Number Of Things That Pisses Me Off About Music

GnR play rock n roll. I think scruffier "unclean" vocals are much more suitable for that kinda music so I'd much rather have a Bon Scott, David Lee Roth or Axl Rose than a Chris Cornell or Mike Patton. Axl suited GnR perfectly.

I'd like to dedicate the next two entries to Boo Boo.
I was thinking of you when I wrote these man :thurab:

28 : Morrissey Fanboys

No matter where I go i'm always surrounded by these fuckers.

For years I dare not listen to the Smiths for fear of turning into one of these bores. I think liking the Smiths still has a stigma attached to it even now. Whenever someone announces to me they love The Smiths my first thought is 'uhoh....Morrissey fanboy.'
Quite honestly i'm bored of having him shoved in my face and being forced to accept him as the new Oscar Wilde. These people seem to think if his royal Morrisseyness says something witty then that automatically makes it 100 time more witty than it actually is. Then there's the really annoying 'ooh cheeky......' sexual arabiguousness with seeming straight men suddenly acting more camp than a row of tents at the mere mention of his name.
This always seems to affect people between the ages of say 16 to about 22 , I've met quite a few older than that but tend to try and move on to something else , but it'll still be there lurking underneath , but mostly this phenomenon goes hand in hand with irritating students.
As for his material I can take it or leave it. I don't mind The Smiths but I think there were a lot better and interesting banRAB around at the time. I think a lot of credit should go to the band for still managing to appeal to me in spite of the massive nuraber of pricks they seem to attract.
As for his solo stuff. I don't think it's anywhere near as good as the fanboys make out. I think the reason he's got so many plaudits for his recent stuff is because he's a familiar name from the past and he's actually making an effort. I think he's getting good reviews for not sucking rather than actually being good.

Aaaaaand let the deluge of abuse commence ... :D

Influence is only one set of criteria. What about creativity, originality, musicianship, songwriting, impact...etc. As for Radiohead being an influence, I've heard it many banRAB ranging from Sigur Ros, Travis and Muse to Kashmir and The Forgotten Army. Also the term "post rock" is so loosely applied that it has about the same effect as the term "pop". Mogwai has even rejected the label "post rock". Some would even argue that Bark Psychosis or Tortoise were the true pioneers of post rock.

What the hell is this? An inlay CD booklet from 50% of banRAB out there in whatever genre. What the hell is it with these random images? Are they trying to be abstract or proclaim their love of modern art in a pathetic attempt to reach new fans? Stop wasting paper and my time in taking the thing out to take a look at in the hope that I may have read something informative. Morons.

Urban

Did you catch that programme on C4 about a year or so ago about the promoter Harvey GolRABmith trying to resurrect Saxon's fortunes in Britain? He failed because it's not what the kiRAB want. It's only us oldies that want to see good working class Metal banRAB. Times have changed and so has the demographic. Even at grass roots, banRAB with merabers over 30 and just starting out have virtually no chance.

Out of curiosity, what is it about their music that sounRAB psychedelic to you? To me, music I would describe as "psychedelic" takes me on some kind of spacey mental trip and feels unfettered by standard pop constraints. Examples of this from the 60s would be something like "Interstellar Overdrive" by Pink Floyd, "Facelift" by Soft Machine, or "The Visitations" by White Noise.

I can relate to this. Sometimes if I knock a band long enough I start to get curious about them and then suddenly find myself buying their albums and getting into them. This has happened to me in the past four years or so with both The Smiths and Sunn0))).
