It's been documented in several dozen papers that the war on drugs is the major cause, yes

Other countries try and rehabilitate drug users and/or have more shit which is legal, which reduces trafficking. We throw everyone in jail, from recreational users all the way up to major traffickers.
 
I bet you'd see a significant decline in the number of prisoners coming in. I'm sure someone has done a study about it.
 
Do you have any idea how much weed an ounce is?

I don't think getting caught a couple times with a gram or something is deserving of jail time, but getting caught more than once does show a dramatic level of stupidity that we really should try and edit out of the gene pool.
 
i don't look at being an RP fan as someone who knows everything, but is open to learning everything before making a decision
 
Decriminalizing pot wouldn't change anything at all, really.

We don't incarcerate recreational weed users, only traffickers. And decriminalizing personal usage doesn't stop trafficking. The only way to do that is to allowing pharmacy-type sales of it or just totally legalize it.

Decriminalizing, say, crack usage would lead to a MASSIVE drop in prison population
 
i know its quite a bit, but that doesn't mean you're a criminal with the intentions of doing bad things

the problem i think with this...is that people will just look for an excuse to blame weed for something. such as an accident where a guy was drunk and high and killed 3 people, there would be mass propaganda blaming the marijuana
 
Pretty much, but because a lot of prisons are privately owned it is just straight profit.

Perhaps I'm wrong ... I've never heard it as a reference to a whole country, I've always heard 'police state'
