Amazing speech by NY senator on gay marriage

The government gives people a chance to vote, my vote would be to not redefine marriage. Homosexual relationships arent the same as heterosexual relationships.

What is your/anyones problem with this?

This post solidifies my belief that there should be a test to vote.

(Yes this is a joke)

[My sarcasm is a joke, your stupidity is not, it's actually quite serious.]

{You can tell from my insult that I'm done trying to explain to you how laws work in this country. If you don't understand basic legal principles of fairness and equality then it's worthless to discuss a legal issue with you.}

When law is constrained by previous error, it's not in the spirit of equality and the constitution (which you probably vehemently stand by and allows you to live your life) to selectively vote against equality because you view the changes as "insufficient."

Small changes will lead to overall ones.

This thread makes me wish that OT had, in addition to ignore and buddy lists, an moron list.

So that anyone you put on that list would have their av changed to a pic of Howdy Doody and all their posts would be in purple comic sans font.

That way you would know not to take their bullshit seriously.

The basis of fairness and equality in the constitution direct you to put aside your personal convictions in order to establish justice for all, not just those you deem worthy.

Lawyers and Doctors don't do the same amount of good.

Lawyers should be taxed more on their profits.

Do you see how value laden assumptions are incompatible with the constitution?

You're sacrificing the rights of people equal to you in society (on a sociological level) due to the inefficiency or previous error of government.

You're weighing your own self interest and beliefs above their right to the same rights as you.

It's a blatant example of a white room hypothetical.

White room, 4 people.

One is a lesbian woman who has a life partner, one is a catholic man with a wife, one is a kid with a girlfriend he got pregnant out of wedlock, and one is a gay man with a series of partners and no commitments.

You are one of the 4 people.

Without knowing which you are, who do you assign rights of tax benefits and medical coverage, along with legal decision making, if they choose to engage in a binding contract under government authority with one of their partners?

It's a simple answer; to answer anything differently than all is in direct violation of the spirit of our constitution and general thinking as a society.
