Alice in Chains...

AIC is the only band I can think of whose entire output I enjoy, except for one song (the untitled track on Sap). They offered a great blend of aggression and depression.

Some people might object to their depressing lyrics, but that's most likely why people would listen to them. Just as one wouldn't listen to Slayer expecting to relax, one should not listen to AIC expecting to feel upbeat.

My top 10 songs by AIC would go something like:

1. Grind
2. Angry Chair
3. Down In A Hole
4. Dirt
5. Again
6. We Die Young
7. Man In The Box
8. Get Born Again
9. Sludge Factory
10. Bleed The Freak

STP are reuniting too? :bonkhead:

How many hits has Nickelback had? How many hits has Brittany Spears had? How many hits have Black Eyed Peas had? Etc.

BTW I was a huge AiC fan in the 90s and still enjoy their earlier work. Just wanted to point out the irrelevance of your comment.

are going on tour? Who have they replaced Layne with? I heard they were coming to boston, tix go presale tix go on sale tomorrow 11 am, I bet they will sell out in 2 mins.

1. yes, didn't you know jimi hendix is grunge?
2.sure bitch
3.so what films have you seen lately?

I'd kinda forgotten about Alice in Chains...

I still have their self-titled (or Tripod) purple plastic cassette!! I was pretty young then, but I still like God Am and Grind, and Sludge Factory.

The group does sound a tiny bit like Nirvana, but Laynes' lyrics are more to the point. Almost like he wrote before getting ripped. Kurt on the other hand, well....

Alice in Chains never wrote anything in regarRAB to Nirvana. In fact, there is only one quote by them on record even mentioning Kurt that I can think of and it was of Layne saying that his death sucked or something. They never did anything together and there was no relationship between the two banRAB other than where they came from.

There's not a lot of music figures that really appreciate Nirvana. Maybe mainstream, yeah, but there are a lot more musicians that have given their respects to Layne. As we all know, Eddie Vedder wrote a song for him, Chris Cornell just recently blogged about a dream he had of Layne, and Maynard Keenan of Tool has made public his dislike of Kurt while stating that the loss of Layne was tragic; Layne has also done guest vocals for Tool on an occasion and Maynard did vocals for Alice in Chains during a concert. There are other artists that have expressed their respect toward Layne as well like Ann Wilson of Heart and that dude from Smashing Pumpkins.

I don't know what sparked the discussion of Kurt, but there is no sign anywhere, in their music, or in their interviews, that Alice in Chains gave that much of a **** about Nirvana/Kurt.

I'm not talking about banRAB that sound like AiC knockoRAB, I'm just talking about recent banRAB that bear any AiC influence at all. Like I said before, there may be handful but I can't think of any. Can you? I'm talking recent banRAB here, not late 90s nu-metal banRAB that are still putting out albums.

Saw these guys again on the Rock Werchter festival two weeks ago in Belgium. They blew me away again. What a power and so many great songs. You really have to dig the slow solid grooves but if you do it's absolutely amazing. They sounded very coherent and tight. One of the best performances of the weekend.

My fave album by them has to be Jar of Flies just because it shows there musical diversity. I mean they went country for Rotten Apple, I Stay Away, and No Excuses. Also, I adore the jazzy vibe on Swing on This

no, but for me, nirvana's nevermind, stone temple pilots' core and pearl jam's ten are still incredible albums so i think i can still apreciate grunge today, i just didn't find alice in chains' music appealing....except for would which is a borabass song.....

Never liked this band, Recently gave Dirt a listen. Quite enjoyed it. I might listen a few more times before I decide to get it. I guess the next one to get after that would be their S/T.

That is the worst AiC song I've ever heard (though I haven't heard the new album except for a few songs). That song really turned me off from them after Dirt...to the point I didn't even check out the album it's from until last year. I was like, WTF is this shit?!

Some of their chord changes on Facelift and Dirt are unbelievable ... bits of Would? for sure, but all through those two recorRAB are riRAB and harmonic collisions that I've just never heard anywhere else, or at least certainly not so heavily
