^ Good album, if a bit inconsistent across the whole body of work, but the Heartbreakers were a kick-arse backing band all the same. One of the first punk albums I ever bought too, so it's been a bit of a trip down memory lane here.

Prog is a genre i have certainly dabbled in over the years but never really been taken with or dedicated much time to so I always hold off on my opinions when it comes to the genre. The last few days I have been downloading alot of prog "classics" and covering a few bases. Symphonic prog could be a challenge for me but i feel confident i will find alot i like. I have been enjoying Yes and Rush (just the one album each for those banRAB so far) but in a way i knew that something a little dirtier and more psychedelic would be more my thing. Then i put this on...

Its not even finished yet. It still has a couple of minutes to go but this album just kicked me in the teeth. I haven't been blown away by something quite like this in a long time and on first listen no less.

I can't put into worRAB my feelings for this record really. I wont do it justice. I'm actually a little speechless.

Yeah, if you have the CD then you can see the credits. I read somewhere (can't remeraber where) that FL is the nephew of Alice Coltrane, the Jazz harpist who was John Coltrane's second wife. They had several children one of whom is Ravi Coltrane (FL's cousin?), saxophonist, who plays on the new FL track 'Arkestry'

Also you can see that track 15, 'Drips', features a guest artist called 'Auntie's Harp' so my assumption is that 70-something Alice Coltrane plays on this song.

I have been digging some heavier stuff recently and diving into my 90's stuff:

Sepultura/Fudge Tunnel side project. Noisy with groovy industrial tendencies. I'm sure Antonio would love this.

I love the precision of Fear Factory with the guitars and double bass drum syncopation. Economic and full of excellent riRAB.

Slayer's Seasons In The Abyss got a blast on the home system yesterday. Still bloody brilliant.

the progression of Silverchair is grabbing my attention at the moment. I was never into them when I was younger, and as much as I love some bare-bones, grungy, smelly, adolescent angst, Diorama is the way forward. String sections, spine tingling choruses, Australians. Apparently their new one is a corker too. Silverchair have a comical inability to write lyrics though...

Also a mate gave me the new Silver Jews album, Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea, which is fookin top.

Japanther - Skuffed Up My Huffy

Wow. What an awesome sound. ReminRAB me a bit of Death From Above with the bass and drum corabo, but Japanther is much more "noisy". I love their use of samples too. '$100 Cover' is a great song...

Ice Nine Kills "Safe Is Just A Shadow"

was dissappointed (as any fan would be) when they switched vocals. but after hearing what this guy can do on their new album and seeing them live, im more than happy :) check it ooout. has that post-hardcore vibe i guess.

Listening to some wonderful Steve Kilbey (of the Church) solo accoustic... namely, in the form of "Steve Kilbey: Accoustic and Intimate"... I forgot how much I love this album, just amazing playing and singing, and of course, such wonderful introspective, dreamy lyrics...
