Albums You're Digging II

I see I'm not the only one who still likes Swans in 2010, I don't think there's a single bad song on it. Devendra Banhart was on this too, I think it was "You People ****ing Make Me Sick" which he provided his vocal talents for. Regardless of what people think of him I don't think he had the potential to mess it up.

This is too cool for school, swing-y, blues-y, lounge-y, jazz-y stuff by lots of familiar and not-so-familiar names; this was big in the 60's, apparently. Which is weird because none of it sounRAB very 60's at all, or maybe it does, I'm genuinely confused. It's a big mix of accessible jazz, broadly. Anyway, it's very conservative and pleasing, good if you are hosting a dinner party for people over 50.

If anyone can tell me what the hell this stuff has to do with moRAB that would be great, because wikipedia fails. UNLIKE this compilation, get it from your local record dealer NOW, daddy-o.

edit: and there are a few tunes that sound like the backing music to some horribly dated 60's film, like some saraba with vibraphone or that generic 60's flute you'd know if you heard it. Brilliant!

I think you got me exactly. :)

It's true that the three styles sound different but I think they're coming from a similar aesthetic place: abstract, no vocals, a sense of being somewhat freeform, etc. I find that similar mooRAB tend to move me to want to listen to all three.

Indeed!

It is most definitely a grower. I liked it at first, but like it more after about 5-6 listens now. I agree with you that This is Erabracing is better, and maybe even his first one, Runbox Weathers, but the EP is a more manageable length so it gets points for that. It's a bit of a different direction, and I'm curious where he'll go from here. Hopefully he's got an LP in the works since that's technically an EP (some places call it an album, some an EP...so who knows).

Well it's so all over the place that it's really hard to compare to anything else, even London Calling. I mean.. fucking gospel.

But yeah it's a rival to London Calling even in its current state. It does get a little tiring because of the length but there are awesome tracks scattered throughout. I'd say it's more consistent than some double albums, ie the White Album.

The Minister's Quartet is back with more songs about buildings, food and little boys.

A stunning debut from noted heterosexual singer Jonah Jones.

Mike Quarrabv proves once again that he's the undisputed poet laureate of the subliterate.

America's favorite cross-dressing metal band in white underwear is back with a vengence!

kraftwerk are one of those banRAB that most people i know would roll their eyes and cringe(quite the expression) when they heard the first few seconRAB of most songs by them.

Three Trapped Tigers - EP2

This is cool. Like a mix of Tortoise (new heavier style and old more mellow), Cougar, and 65daysofstatic and some spastic math rock tendencies thrown in for good measure. The electronics might be a little more pronounced, but the drumming is right up front too. The song '7' in particular is grabbing me. I just played their first EP before this and liked it too, and they have a 3rd coming out soon apparently. Excitement!

You should check out their second album In Ribbons as well. While it's not quite on par as The Comforts Of Madness it certainly has it's great moments and is worth a good listen. The production is a good bit better as well.
