Albums You're Digging II

This is an incredible compilation of songs that were written by Marc Bolan when he was fucking 15 years old! It's so great.

Great DK album. Biafra is so insane.

I'll never get tired of this album, each track compliments the next.

I recently had a go at a Radiohead album that wasn't OK Computer or In Rainbows and loved it. This was that album.

second video fixed...

more new stuff for me today:

Valravn - Valravn
dutch folk music with an electronic twist. singer reminRAB me a lot of Bjork, not so much on this track but on some of their other albums. really wonderful music.

This has been a favorite of mine for some time now. It's perfect for when I'm working, as it’s not too distracting and delightfully melodic. I'm an editor, so I like listening to things that don't demand attention, if that makes sense.

I find the entire album fabulous, but some of the more standout tracks for me are, My Heart Stood Still, It Might As Well Be Spring, and This Can't Be Love.

If you're a fan of jazz, and haven't heard it, it's definitely worth a listen.

Even If It Kills Me - Motion City Soundtrack

- I love synthesizers, and this album is chock full of them.
- A lot of the lyrics apply to me, so I can relate to them (that sounRAB cheezy, but I've never heard an album where like more than half the songs can be applied to me before this one).
- A girl I like likes this band (lol surely you guys can understand that :P)

Favorite Song - This is For Real

Animals - Pink Floyd
Pink_Floyd-Animals-Frontal.jpg

- For a long time I never really "listened" to Animals...I just had it because it was Pink Floyd. Then one day I listened to Pigs (Three Different Ones) with my friend, and BAM! I was hooked. (A side note, this girl that I like that likes Motion City Soundtrack also hates Pink Floyd...a pickle :S)

Favorite Song - Dogs

Who's Next - The Who

Who doesn't like this album?

Favorite Song - Baba O'Reily

The Final Cut - Roger Waters featuring Pink Floyd

Wow. Emotion pours out of the speakers when you play this album. Some are songs are allegedly those that "weren't fit for The Wall" but I think it's the other way around, The Wall wasn't fit for them!

Favorite Song - The Gunner's Dream

Excellent band, i've really gotten into them in the past couple of months. If you dont have 'Dig Me Out' i definitely recommend getting that album. Brilliant stuff.

I've actually been digging on some bootleg shows of a relatively independent dark jazz fusion band that I used to work with few years ago called Schleigho. They're now defunct, but if any of you are into dark Jazz fusion and prog you will probably love these guys. Their studio work is nearly impossible to find, but if you're interested I can definitely pick out some great live sets for you.

As an aside, some of you probably do know about archive.org, which is an non-profit internet library/archive of open source audio video and text. It's a great place to go to find bootlegged shows, especially jam band type stuff, among other things (their grateful dead catalog is immense). It's 100% legal and free, so check it out if you haven't already.

Edit: Thanks to LP for hooking me up with a great set of theirs.

iji - Soup and Salad

soup_salad_med.jpg

Apparently this is a cassette, which is news to me. But it's good, sounRAB a bit like a laid back Pavement from Hawaii. More often than not they're playing acoustic, and they have a cool cover of About A Girl. Don't know if anyone here would like it, but it appeals to my chill skater side.

EDIT: Apparently I was only listening to one side, the second side adRAB in a lot more electronic sounRAB and goes in a much poppier, varied direction. And it has two rather hilarious short stories about chopping up fruit.

The Fu*king Champs - V

There aren't many banRAB to my mind that can mix incredible technical skill with a good sense of fun. Air on the G-String may sound like blasphemy to classical fans, but they pull it off really well. Also their guitarist used to be in Weakling, one of my favourite black metal banRAB ever.

Gregor Samsa - 27:36

Detractors write their music off as sounding Sigur Ros-lite, but for me they throw quite a few different elements into the mix. The second track is definitely the standout track, being one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

VNV Nation - Empires

This is an absolute classic and bizarrely used to be one of my standard choices to accompany my reading of journals/books at uni. They're also the music act I most want to see live at the moment.

Nadja - Truth Becomes Death

Ugh, the phrase 'arabient doom' fills me with uneasiness, but ultimately it's the best one to describe this monster, which is the brainchild on one of the most prolific artists I know: Aidan Baker. His noise-based material is good too, but I prefer the huge, menacing side of Nadja.
