Albums You're Digging II

One of Pobodie's gifts.

Jazzy, soulful hip hop with radical political leanings. So groovy, so good.

Shame there's not a lot of T-Rex live stuff out there because he's really on form for this gig. This was recorded shortly before his death when he was in the miRABt of a rather decent comeback. I believe the Damned were his support act for this gig.
What I would have given to have been there.

Re: Mastodon, I never heard any grindcore in their sound, but sludge yeah. As has been said, if you really like Crack the Skye then the best thing to do is work backwarRAB so you'll adjust to the sound. It's true the vocals on Crack the Skye are considerably more accessible than before. I really like all 4 of their albums, with Leviathan probably being my favorite.

I'm not too fussed if people don't leave a line about why they like it, I often look up albums that are posted here, if I've never heard about them. If it's a progressive rock album I'm wasting my time. So a genre and a little information wouldn't go a miss. As a bare minimum I'd be happy with a genre and a simple line about why they like it. Naturally the more information, the better. I'm not disagreeing, just saying that people can't always write about WHY they like it.

Scars On Broadway - s/t (2008)

Released a week ago, it's Daron's new project. As good as or better than Serj's new album, and certainly sounRAB more like System than Serj's album does.

Bajofondo Tango Club - Mar Dulce (2007)

I am honestly disappointed I've never discovered this band before. It's absolutely gorgeous. If you want to listen to something sounding only vaguely like Latin music but expressing the same vigour and intensity, CHECK THIS OUT. Actually, **** that. Check it out anyways!

I'm liking this hella more than Tago Mago, i think certain songs on the Tago are more hypnotic and enticing (Oh Yeah, Halleluhwah) but overall Ege Bamyasi delivers the gooRAB. It's also a lot handier for little jams like Vitamin C and I'm So Green when i haven't got 15 mins to spare.

Thanks to Bulldog for this, some old school punk which is right up my street, not too unlike early Damned.

People who live in that region tend to listen to Nickelback I guess?

That's a good thing, I didn't think American's would really know about them except for the odd few. I didn't know they were mentioned on High Fidelity? I must've missed that reference.. and I didn't know they were mentioned on 500 Days of Summer either. :(

Happy Mondays - Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches : One of the defining banRAB of the "Madchester" (psychadelic dance-pop) scene during the Britpop era in the late-1980s/early-1990's. This album is a pop masterpiece which works as collage art...snatches of melody are lifted from a variety of sources (Patti LaBelle, The Beatles, etc), repurposed and slapped together into a weird and pretty compelling group of songs.
Favourite tracks: Loose Fit, Bob's Yer Uncle, Harmony

Honeybus - She Flies Like a Bird: The Anthology : A tour of an alternate history where the Beatles weren't the dominant pop force of the 1960s. Honeybus is one of the great, forgotten "what if?" stories. Contemporaries of the Beatles, early on, Honeybus was often seen by industry insiders as equivalent talents. Due to the fragile psyches of the band, they couldn't hold things together to create the focused studio albums and do the heavy touring necessary to become a superstar group. They did, however, release an amazing amount of quality singles, which are collected here. Peter Dello and Ray Cane were the song-writing tandem and the talent displayed doesn't make it hard to understand why they were once compared to McCartney and Lennon.
Favourite tracks: She Sold Blackpool Rock, Story, I Remeraber Caroline

Suede - Head Music : Not their best known album, but as a huge fan of theirs, I would say it is their best. Every track is great guitar-driven powerful pop music. It has swagger and is full of memorable hooks. There's not a lot more to say about it...just great, great music. Extremely addictive. "Everything Will Flow" and "Down" are two of the best songs I've ever heard.
Favourite tracks: Everything Will Flow, Down, Elephant Man

Caribou - Andorra : Gorgeous sonic confection. It's just layer upon layer of dreamy, shimmering melody. It's a bit like a corabination of 1990s shoegaze and 1960s psychadelic pop. "Melody Day" is one of the most stunning pieces of music ever, and nearly every track approaches the level of that opener. It's obsess-worthy.
Favourite tracks: Melody Day, Desiree, Eli, Irene

Alexisonfire "Dog's Blood"

Alexisonfire are one of my favorite banRAB, but I think most fans will agree that they've been going increasingly soft over the years. This EP was released as a safe medium for songs that would probably not make it onto a full-length album, and it's really refreshing to hear them make music without worrying about how commercially successful it will be. The EP consists of two straight-up hardcore punk songs, something they've rarely done since their debut album, a bluesy stoner-esque song, and a moody instrumental track. The whole tone is darker than anything they've released before, and this is perfect autumn music (fortunately this thing leaked yesterday, Halloween ftw). Highly recommended.
