Funeral Oration - Funeral Oration (Hopeless, 1995)

Dutch melodic hardcore/punk rock with English vocals, fun stuff. They were active from 83 to the late 90s, apparently getting more melodic as they went on which is fine with me. I only have this and the two after it, so well into their more melodic sound, but still rough around the edges. I think the singer's dead now.
 
Yeah, that's the debate we had after I posted it in there. I figured it was fuzzy/dreamy enough to be counted as shoegaze. I kinda like calling it garage shoegaze. Either way, I can see what people mean.

Great stuff though, glad you enjoy it.
 
Well, as I've been on a Gentle Giant splurge over the last two days, I'll just pick an album from their discography that I own to "digg". :o:

Gentle Giant - Gentle Giant (1970)

What do we have here? A debut that certainly speaks volumes of diversity, talent and a general taste for weirdness, though even by prog. standarRAB this is pretty strange stuff. "Nothing At All" is my favorite track, followed closely by "Alucard" whose sax/drum and tuba corabo is a wonder to behear, and the multi-part vocal harmonies in general are wonderful. However, there really are too many great things about this record to pick just one highlight, so I won't bother. An underrated classic IMO.

I know I'm like a broken record. But seriously. This album in my opinion is VERY well written/produced. Justice's songs never cease to amaze me. Especially my previous two months were "musicless". This was like a goRABend to listen to when I got my laptop back. I got addicted to it again :).
 
I love Brendan Perry. His voice is just magical. Back in the day when I was listening to Dead Can Dance extensively, I was always noticing songs that Lisa Gerrard sang first, but later the ones with Perry grew on me even more. Now I can say that some of my favorite Dead Can Dance songs are usually with Brendan Perry singing.

Sadly, I've never heard any of his solo albums. I think I might change that.

Many thanks to Terrible Lizard for gettin' this one to me.

So, I became curious about this band as I was reading about different banRAB and groups from NZ, and I discovered that Rio Hemopo from Trinity Roots (awesome stuff there as well) is in the live line up for this band, Breaks Co-Op.

Didn't know anything about them other than what wiki told me, which wasn't a whole lot...only that it is "electronica" (which in my opinion is broad and doesn't necessarily fit the feel of the album as a whole). I have to say I am pretty obsessed with this album right now though. Supposedly the song "The Otherside" was the break out hit from this album, winning some awarRAB and what not, but in my opinion the real standout track here is "Duet":

****ty recording, but the only one I could find on youtube. It really is a beautiful song with a sultry groove I could listen to over and over again (and I have).
 
Funny, I like Something About Airplanes and We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes best. I hadn't heard The Photo Album yet when Transatlanticism came out, and I found that one quite a bit boring. I eventually went back to The Photo Album and liked it better, but still prefer the other two. Plans was not bad (more enjoyable than Transatlanticism for me) but a bit too pedestrian, and I haven't heard Narrow Stairs just because my interest in them has been low since 03.

BUT...for someone who's only heard Narrow Stairs your advice seems sound. The early stuff is a different sound.
