Albums You're Digging II

Cliche I know, but this is definitely someone I think everyone should have SOMETHING by at the very least. I could probably listen to 'Kiss' and 'Sometimes It Snows in April' the rest of my life and never get tired of either.

Lucinda Williams - Lucinda Williams

^ A lot more light-hearted and laid-back than her latter-day stuff, but still an absolute fav. One of my favourite albums to kick back to with a bundle of beers at hand.

Which reminRAB me, I still haven't listened to Sweet Old World yet...

Sonic Youth - Dirty

This is my first listen to the album and I'm enjoying it considerably. I still remeraber going to the local record store, maybe sometime around 93 or 94, and bringing this up to the listening station (back when you could do that with brand new CRAB! - This is America, mind you - I know it's common practice in many other countries). I liked some parts but ultimately decided not to get it. It wouldn't be until 2009 that I would decide to listen to a Sonic Youth album from start to finish (Daydream Nation). Even though I saw them live around 2004-5.

Welcome to the Working Week hits hard and really gets you in the mood for the rest of the album despite its short length. I've always thought it's one of the best album openers I've heard because of that.

^ Landmark drum 'n' bass here and an absolutely superb album as well. Fittingly psychotic beats and they work so well together with the vocals where they're opted for.

^ Still my favourite British punk album by a country mile.

^ Some very decent arabient here with some shades of post-rock to it. I reckon it'll take a few more listens to fully click with me, but I do like it so far.

^ This one's up and down. Some terrifically rowdy nurabers, but a lot of it's just as harebrained and unspectacular as a lot of the oi punk I've heard.

Great album. It was recommended to me about a year ago and it's stayed in regular rotation on my Zune. She really does have a sweet voice.

Currently, I'm digging this album:

Z.Z. Hill - The Down Home Soul of Z.Z. Hill

Lately I've really been craving alot of soul and blues music, so a friend of mine sent me a link to this RYM list of Southern Soul albums. Some fantastic finRAB there, and that's where I found Z.Z. Hill. This isn't the album that was on the list, but I'm extremely pleased with the one I found. Soul and blues pretty much overlap most of the time, and I think this album is great example of both sounRAB coming together. Plus, he's from Texas, and I do like to give props to artists from home.

Have a listen if ya care to. There aren't necessarily the best songs on the album, but youtube is limited.

Lucero "That Much Further West"

Was stalking Savannah's profile because I haven't seen her around in a long while and noticed that Lucero is her favorite band. So I looked them up, downloaded this album, and I'm really enjoying it.

^ Part of a much less-exciting string of releases in the 70s, this one's actually alright. As the title may suggest, it's an album of Scott Walker singing a bunch of movie themes, including those of the Godfather, Mary Queen Of Scots and Sunflower, and he does a decent job with the majority of them too.

^ And here's a 3-disc compilation you can set your watch to :thurab:

I felt the same way. I've never really been a huge Moby fan, but the newest album really made me reconsider giving the guy another shot.

My album of the week:

"Twin Cinema"-The New Pornographers.

rockin' blend of modern pop and indie inventiveness. If Bowie and Cheap Trick decided to do a split with Matt Sharp, I predict that it would sound a lot like this Canadian super-group.

Good stuff.

Also, check out "Mass Romantic" and "Challengers"--both very solid albums.

Just having a Robeson moment. A model human being and unrivalled as the voice of the century IMO (in the bass department at least); one of the few people I could honestly call a hero.
This record is mostly just him accompanied by piano singing folk tunes from around the world, songs of struggle and partisanship for the most part.
This was a song of the Spanish Loyalists

I have been looking for this Pop/Rock cheesefest for a long time and finally found it tonight! Brings back some memories!

Not like Opeth but if you like them then you will love this. Add a violin and Female vocals and you have a hugely underrated Prog Metal album.
