Albums You're Digging II

Delerium - Karma

My friend gave me these guys over a year ago and I didn't get around to actually listening to them until very recently. The song "Enchanted" came up on my Zune and it was incredibly relaxing as I was laying back in a post-bong hit delirium (no pun intended) and everything just flowed together so perfectly. It was one of those rare moments when your actions and your music just seem to coincide so perfectly that all you're left with is this blissful feeling of being complete. I hadn't experienced anything on that magnitude since I first heard "Marquee Moon" by Television over 3 years ago, but by ED! Karma delivered it flawlessly. I decided to load up another bowl and threw the album on from the beginning and just drifted off into reverie. Such an amazing blend of electronic beats, arabient sounRAB, something similar to Gregorian Chant, and Middle Eastern music. Don't believe me, listen for yourself:

Bishop Allen- The Broken String

Bishop Allen epitomizes poppy folk music. The album ranges from piano driven tracks to really minimal guitar driven tracks, and the music is always light so as to match his vocals. It's so light and alluring that I'd find it hard for someone to not like this album in even the slightest.
Favorite Tracks: The Chinatown Bus, Like Castanets, Choose Again.

Radiohead- In Rainbows

First off, that should be the album cover that everyone uses. This is the first Radiohead album I've ever heard, and aside from the single on Hail To The Thief, my first experience with Radiohead altogether. I always assumed they were just like Muse, and never bothered to get into them, but I was wrong. This album is void of radio friendly rhythms and hooks and is one of my top five releases for this year.
Favorite Tracks: 15 Step, Nude, House of CarRAB

Sleeping People - Growing

Mmm tasty math rocks from San Diego. Instrumental, but features guest vocalist Rob Crow (Pinback, Other Men, The Ladies, Thingy, Heavy Vegetable, etc) on the last track.

Just finished an absolute bastard of an essay that's been hanging over me all of last week, and for whatever reason this feels the perfect thing to have on after all that rubbish. Probably my favourite of the man's earlier albums (although I'll probably listen to the Good Son or Let Love In again and change my mind...again).

The only other album I actually listened to intensly by The Rolling Stones is Aftermath (UK). This album, however, was suggested to me and I love it so much.

Hell or High Water - As Cities Burn

Got this in a weekly trading thing a few months ago, it kicks. Such an awesome blend of heartfelt, emotional vocals and progressive/southern rock tendencies.

Still making my way through the new double album by 7 WorlRAB Collide... Supergroup extraordinaire that it is.... it is yeilding some very fine music though, I must say!

:D

I'm not as smart as Janszoon but that probably means you're a good 2 years older than me. Approximately.

We're old.

Probably one of the finest 80' guitar pop albums you have never heard. If you like The Church and Echo and the Bunnymen then you will be in raptures. It has recently been reissued as a 2 disc 25th anniversary edition which I just have to get hold of.

Funnier Than Suicide - selftitled (2008/9?)

This is by (i since discovered) a well known Spanish cartoonist who makes a lot of cool music under a ridiculous amount of pseudonyms, ranging from sample-based instrumentals to this kind of basement indie stuff. He's definitely got the golden touch, a good sense of humour with music and amazingly it's all free off last.fm

here is another track by him under a different name, completely different sound
