Albums You're Digging II

By Mindless Self Indulgence.

Morningrise. What I seem to remeraber is that Tracks 1 and 2 were awesome and the acoustic parts of the REALLY long track (4??) were great. I thought 3 and 5 were a little weaker.

I hope you have got the one with the extra tracks; Porcelain Baked-Over Cast Iron Wedding is my favourite track of that album if were to pick one.

Another similar sounding album I am listening to nowadays is Promise and the Monster's Transparent Knives. It captures a feeling similar to Parallelograms more than say Newsom or Bunyan albums which it gets compared to.

Finally getting a chance to listen to Narrow Satirs by Death Cab for Cutie... two tracks in, already sounding much better than the slightly disappointing ( but still quite good),good Plans album...

Burning Down...I always loved the cover art to NAIHF.... reminded me of a place I used to pass through en route to a favorite vacation destination! Aside from that the album has so many travel overtones... it suits the music great. Still one of my favorite REM albums, could be considered a real sleeper in their back catalogue.

I only started listening to Metric a few days, I must say that this album completely blew me away. I recomend this to anyone who appreciates good music.

Five posts in a row about Green Day....can somebody say apocalypse?

In any case, I've been in a Talk Talk mood recently;

Reformed Faction - I Am the Source of Light, I Am Not a Mirror

Another one from my lastpost in the 'recent purchase/download' thread. Unfortunately this was a download and I don't have the awesome package pictured above. This is a 3-CD set of new and original material released earlier this year. Essentially arabient/music concrete/industrial but surprisingly active and very interesting. It's not drone, in other worRAB. I'm just wrapping up disc 3 and I'm just really impressed with this. The band is essentially the reformation of :zoviet*france: but without all merabers. I've been aware of both due to Mark Spybey's involvement, but had never listened to their stuff until now. Mark Spybey recorRAB solo as Dead Voices On Air (I have a few of his albums) and contributed heavily to the first two Download albums, Furnace and The Eyes of Stanley Pain (the accompanying EP Sidewinder having provided my name and avatar), albums which I love very dearly. On these 3 discs, I definitely can hear some of the similar sounRAB that I love so much in the two Download albums. I'm also reminded of some of Psychic TV's work, such as that on the Electric Newspaper series.

The Associates - Sulk

Musically-speaking, it's been a pretty quiet weekend for me. This here's one I must have had for months but forgotten about it 'til now - miles away from their more synth-poppy stuff and a lot closer to a post-punk/early gothic rock sound with some synthesized atmospherics. Very good stuff then, and includes a fascinating, oddly melodic rendition of Gloomy Sunday (the most miserable song ever written for those who don't recognise the name).

Here's another one of the best bits...

Belle and Sebastian - Push Barman To Open Old WounRAB

So many hidden gems in this compilation (Photo Jenny, Legal Man, Jonathan David, the list goes on....). Really wish I gave it a chance long ago...
