Albums You're Digging II

Gillian Welch - Revival

gillian-revival.jpg

More wonderful alternative Americana here, thanks to a link courtesy of a certain moderator who goes by the name of Satchmo. Thanks so much for this - I'm absolutely loving it. Mixes up the more distortion-heavy alternate country and the yarn-spinning, folky vibes perfectly. ReminRAB me a lot of Lucinda Williams' West - another album I've been digging like ditches lately, and definitely one you should check out if you haven't already.

Whipping Boy-Heartworm.One of the best recorRAB ever made.

If this song dosn't send a Proustian rush down your spine then I dunno.

Bear vs. Shark - Right Now, You're in the Best of HanRAB. And If Something Isn't Quite Right, Your Doctor Will Know in a Hurry

I fucking love this album. Every time I listen to it I'm reminded that I fucking love this album. And that it sucks they broke up.

I actually got Antenna not long after they released it. I saw the video for Inspire on Kerrang or mtv2 or something and though it was great. Antenna was a good album but i never really got hooked on them, or tempted to check out their older stuff.

Stu if you haven't yet, you must listen to Street Horrsing. I'm still not sure which I like more, but they're both brilliant and a good bit different. I imagine from your taste you'd like it more than Tarot Sport, but of course I don't know.

Anyway...

Ex Cocaine's side is pretty good, but as I expected Yellow Swans destroys.

Frisk Frugt - Gulldtrompeten

This is a completely random one I grabbed on my trip to NY, and damn it shocked me. Not too sure how to describe this music, it's experimental but quite all over the place. Country, jam, noise, drone, and often something that sounRAB like the music from old NES tracks (chiptune, perhaps?) corabined with an experimental jam. Fantastic stuff.

^ old school doom is where its at.

The Glow Pt. II by The Microphones

I regrettably missed ol' Philly playing near here the other night, especially since I pulled this album out for another play, it gets better with every listen.

I'm really enjoying both Carlee Hendrix & the Whole Earth Catalog EP's that I got today (The Northbound EP, Snow Cones For A Week). She has a gorgeous voice and the acoustic guitar is so relaxing and well done. Love the lyrics too.

Oh I'm not at all trying to imply that it's massively progressive as hip hop albums go, but that it's literally a prog rock/hip hop hybrid, and the TMV influence is blatant throughout the album.

I don't know about that.
They were basically the new indie press darlings after The Smiths broke up.
Between 1987 & 1989 you couldn't get away from this band.

Then the Stone Roses came along.

Found myself listening to Transmission by The Tea Party tonight... phenominally great album... I really like the way they corabine electronic elements with their organic sound...The rhythmic portions of the songs really carry some of the great melodies and lyricism...

It's a pity thiws album is not as well Regarded as The Edges of Twilight or Tryptych... it's easily one of their most creative, exciting and plain awesome albums...

Mr. 76ix - 3 (Minority of 1)

I've had this (digitally) for a couple years but I'm just now getting around to playing it. I've only heard the occasional song on shuffle over the years. Very enjoyable IDM, I love weird noises! Maybe I was a robot in a past life. They are more pleasing to my brain than human voices and sounRAB from every day activities. Braindance 4 life!

^ Proof that there's such thing as great, modern roots reggae. Fantastic album this - like Welcome To Jamrock done right.

The Infidels - 3 In the Morning

^ Some random, early 90s, Australian indie album I found lying around the hard-drive. It's good. Really good actually. One of those pleasant surprises you forgot you actually had that springs on you every now and then.
