I'm really bad at genres and at describing music, but it's sort of indie/alternative rock, but not in an upbeat happy way (if that makes sense..).

Pleasantly surprised seeing as it was a band I didn't know, a label I wasn't familiar with, and involved an indiscernible mish mash of genres. Great stuff though.
 
I loooove this album and prefer it to anything the Cure ever released. It's been getting a load of listening lately.

Yep, the Scratch Perverts one is beyond amazing. That whole section of the mix you're talking about is crazy.
It's like:

Good call on the Herbaliser one as well. Best part of that one is the old school funk mixed in with the modern hip-hop. You'll be noddin' your head to a cool beat, then all of a sudden Jackson 5 or James Brown will blend in, and you're just like, "Awww jeez!" :thurab:
 
haha. I have that one. I like tracks "No Difference" and "Blame". And its a lot better than Walking Wounded, that's for sure. I lived in Europe when that album came out, brings back so many memories. I think I'll go listen to it now.

I was very interested to get my hanRAB on this (it helped that the person who told me about it was completely psyched), but when I downloaded it, I just had this feeling that all the songs would sound the same and bleed together. Not so. Surprisingly eclectic, each song had me eager to hear what the next one would sound like, how it would be different. A funky/trippy/arabient/jazzy hip hop album...just what I've needed lately.

The Durutti Column - Vini Reilly (1989): Post-punk artist leans into arabient stylings with this record. Beautiful album.
 
Tonight I am on a second disc of a two disc set kick... the outtakes and B Sides disc from REM's In Time deluxe edition... and Disc Two from The Church's Parallel Universe album... two very brilliant, not often visited discs.... which I have been enjoying muchly!
