4Kids Talkback: The Crossroads of Destiny - The 4Kids Discussion V10

Like Mohji mentioned, the second airing of Yu-Gi-Oh! DM was generally better and it is usually behind Sonic X and DBZ Kai for getting the highest ratings for the block. I don't see how it could be considered being black holes for the ratings. 5D's, unfortunately, has almost always done poorly on the block, which still kind of surprises me, so I don't think that it really had good ratings in the recent weeks.

Bingo. And in reply to your commenting about the company "finding" someone as opposed to "appointing" someone, I think bringing in someone from the outside would be a whole lot better than promoting someone who's on the board already, fresh faces are needed for situations such as this instead of relying on someone who's too closely associated to the previous head honcho.

Exceed Monsters have yet to debut in Japan, actually. Starter Deck 2011 will hit Japanese stores in March, right around the debut of Zexal.

I said this on the anime version of the thread and I'm repeating it here for emphasis:

4kids needs to do some grand experimenting and find something. I can't repeat this enough: they need VISION. They need to find something that hits resonantly with their target audience, whatever the target audience may be. 4kids needs a Gargoyles, a Pokemon, a Sailor Moon, a Ben 10, something, anything.

It doesn't matter if it's Twelve Kingdoms serious or Adventure Time screwy. They need to find something in the next couple of years and make it work.

And that means they can't make a series that's thirteen episodes (standard season) of 22-minute merch commercials. They need to make a series that's thirteen episodes of 22-minute stories that happen to have a merch line.

4kids needs to look at Pixar's company motto and business strategy. The motto is "Story is king". The business strategy is "quality is the best business plan". If Pixar can makes zillions off of merchandise and tell highly effective stories, so can 4kids, if they find the right people for the job. It doesn't matter if it's live-action, 2d-animated, flash-animated, or 3d-animated. They need a creator with a clear-cut vision for a great story that can support a merchandise line. And then they do it again.

Yeah I don't think any of those are it. After all the majority of DBZ Kai's cast is adult characters and takes itself pretty seriously compared to the original Funimation dub . Gohan's techinically the only kid in the whole main cast and he doesn't do much until the Cell saga.

It could just be that the kids don't like the idea of it being a spin off of the original. After all GX supposedly didn't do much better.

It's why I'm hoping 4 Kids will try to deviate from the toyetic shows a bit more. I know they need to be able to merchandise their shows to make any real money, but it's clear that their action shows are more popular and they should try too add more titles with that sort of appeal.

From a performance and business standpoint Yu-Gi-Oh is doing okay, but airing a show that's 10 years old on a block that is supposed to help 4Kids out by bringing in new viewers (the whole reason behind the Toonzai idea) is not exactly keeping things fresh and exciting, I think if shows like this were replaced by some new properties then 4Kids would/could see an increase in viewership. As it stands right now Yu-Gi-Oh classic is just doing alright for the block and since there is room for improvement I think they should be so bold as to switch it out for a new property, you don't gain success without taking some chances afterall.

Yeah, for the entirety of its run, the block (basically ever since the Kids' WB! days when it got the extra hour and was 5 hours long) has started at 7am, regardless of timezone. However, I know of something called "The CW Plus" in some areas where the block does air from 6am-11am. However, I heard of that a long time ago when The CW first formed.

What the?!?!?!

How can Sonic X go from a 0.6 last week or whatever it was to a 1.8!? And Kai jumped from similar numbers to a 1.4 and 1.3, what a huge leap! If these numbers are correct then this is really good for 4Kids, I can't remember the time I've seen a 1.8 out of them or anything close to it, this has been a pretty damn good week for the company (ratings wise).

Wow, a lot of 1.5's on the ratings this week as well as a lot of shows well over a 1.0, this is awesome news for 4Kids in spite of the Yu-Gi-Oh situation they have going on at the moment. I'm proud of the company for somehow turning over a new leaf with the ratings and becoming a viable force on Saturday morning television, I'm hoping that they can keep it up and climb even higher, 2.0 isn't too far away. :D

Well if they can pay off the debt they probably should just do it and save face.

They've admit in this PR that the Chapter 11 was to prevent the Yu-Gi-Oh! license from getting pulled.

If it turns out those allegations are true they're only delying the inevitable.

Looks like keeping that Yu-Gi-Oh! license... is not in the cards. ...YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Other than Cubix, everything else is doing pretty good, especially for broadcast TV. If I'm reading this right, I can safely say that CW 4Kids won this week.

No, do you know what they need to do? They need to actually promote themselves on other channels such as: Disney Channel, The Hub, Nickelodeon and among others. That's the problem. And, besides the fact, that Dragonball Z: Kai is mainly the only show that getting about 65% of the ratings currently. I know that 4KidsTV is slow with the license and dubbing, we all know this. But the matter is, they need other shows besides all 100% anime, all of the time. They need the classic Kids WB and FOX Kids that were on. It's a good block and all, but seriously, there's too much reruns and there's the same schedule for the last 4 months already. Usually, a Saturday Morning block would already changed it. Not them, whatever happened to symbolic Saturday mornings to remember by? There's none here, that's for sure. And, 0.8 and 1.0 are a step up, but if it's Kai, it's wonderful as well. But, if it was like a 0.5 and 0.6 in the ratings, you know it's time to get 4KidsTV over with. Or, just promote a new show or just new episodes entirely... We only have 8 more Saturdays until new episodes of Kai.
