4Kids Talkback: The Crossroads of Destiny - The 4Kids Discussion V10

No, I clearly mentioned that there wasn't any issue with the Japanese voice cast either. The Japanese voice for Crowler just said that GX wouldn't be renewed for the spring a couple of years ago. It had nothing to his role on the show or any of the cast members. The reason why they didn't continue GX through the spring season of 2008 was because they wanted to go into 5D's sooner and the ratings might have been a factor as well. I don't know why you thought I said something differently, but I apologize in case it wasn't clear enough. I'm also confused as to why you thought it was going to be renewed in Japan. GX ended its run in Japan back in 2008. I don't know if they even air reruns on a channel there, but even if they did, they wouldn't renew it. They're focused on finishing up 5D's and then airing the new Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal series. Unless they decide to go back and remake the GX anime, they won't renew the series. Being renewed also doesn't mean that that it will have to air in the U.S. in a certain amount of time, especially if 4Kids can't afford to dub the series.

Wikipedia is not a reliable source of information since anyone can edit the articles there. 4Kids releasing a press release statement or discussing this issue in an interview would be a much more reliable source for your claims. As for the DVD question, I'm afraid that it is too much to ask 4Kids to ask something like uncut DVDs. Like mumbo mentioned, they don't have their own DVD distribution line and after Funimation stopped being the distributor, it would be kind of hard to find an outside company to release DVD's again. Not to mention that there actually are legal issues with releasing uncut Yu-Gi-Oh! DM due to the Japanese voice actor for Yugi, Shunsuke Kazama contract expiring. It prevented them from putting up the raw episodes on their YouTube account and those old uncut DVD's, both of which were confirmed by that interview with ANN last year. I'd love to have all of the Yu-Gi-Oh! series on DVD too, even if it was just the dubs, since I enjoy all of them too, but unfortunately, it won't be happening anytime soon due to their financial state.

Sonic X leads the way once again in the ratings for Toonzai (except for that first airing) and DBZ Kai came in number 2 once again, just with slightly worse ratings for the week compared to last, the numbers for those two shows were still pretty good but it's the rest of the block that's hurting. They need to get rid of classic Yu-Gi-Oh from the lineup and get some fresh programming on there, seriously, they promised us new programming and all we've gotten that's of any value was DBZ Kai (and it's not exactly "new"), Toonzai needs to come through with the goods and then maybe they will see an increase in their ratings.

does nintendo have the rights to the kirby anime? youd think so since they have the rights to the pokemon series and stream old episodes i wonder what nintendo will do with the kirby anime.

I kind of question how much Toonzai is supposed to be modeled after Toonami. Kahn threw out a mention once but that was about it. Really, all it is is 4Kids going back to anime dubs because that's what made them rich before things went sour. A block with action cartoons on it that happened to have anime on it is what The CW4Kids was for the last two years of its existence (well, barring Kamen Rider...).

Rocket Monkeys isn't an action cartoon either, it's a comedy and I really doubt we'll see it. HTDT seems to have fallen off the face of the earth as well, and I wonder if Penelope will still turn up.

5D's has had lousy ratings almost its entire run though. Honestly, I think they'll just run it through the summer, wash their hands of it, and move on to Zexal in the fall. Konami will probably be itching to get the Zexal cards out here in North America by the fall so I'm really confident Zexal will be here at that time.

Of course, they could hold over some 5D's episodes and air new ones beside Zexal...

As for Kai, though, I think there's a good chance they'll show 27-54 in the March-May months. Could be wrong of course.

Toonzai will be changing up its schedule a little. Here's the schedule for February 5th:

Toonzai on The CW4Kids: February 5th, 2011:
07:00 AM Cubix - The Unfixable Robot (#1)
07:30 AM Cubix - Electrix! (#2)
08:00 AM Sonic X - Heads Up, Tails! (#30)
08:30 AM Sonic X - Revenge of the Robot (#31)
09:00 AM Yu-Gi-Oh! - Double Duel, Part 3 (#72) The CW Network Premiere
09:30 AM Sonic X - Project: Shadow (#33)
10:00 AM Dragon Ball Z Kai - Friends Reborn! Zarbon's Hideous Transformation! (#24)
10:30 AM Dragon Ball Z Kai - Power Up, Krillin! Frieza's Mounting Apprehension! (#25)
11:00 AM Yu-Gi-Oh! - Double Duel, Part 4 (#73) The CW Network Premiere
11:30 AM Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's - Mother Knows Best (#85) North American Television Premiere

Summary:

  • The original Yu-Gi-Oh! takes over one of the 5D's timeslots.
  • The previously skipped Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's episode, "Mother Knows Best", makes its television debut.
  • Dragon Ball Z Kai fast-forwards several episodes - perhaps premieres will come on the 12th?
  • Toonzai will be curiously skipping over a Sonic X episode.

I don't have access to the schedules for February 12th, so I can't say for certain if new DBZ Kai or 5D's episodes will be airing or not.

The first Exceed Monsters (the new type of monster in Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal) will be making their TCG debut in May in the Starter Deck 2011. Then in August, the first booster with Exceed Monsters will be released. So, I wonder if 4Kids will try to dub the series to coincide with the TCG releases, or if they're just going to stay super behind.

Sonic was the underperformer this week? What is the world coming to? Sonic and Kai usually dominate the ratings. Well at least they broke even this week.

Actually no. 4Kids has their hands dipped in a couple other pots for revenues. Which company lays their eggs in 1 basket?

What other sources of revenue?
Meh. I'll let someone else type up a list. Its 1:30am:p

Their playing it safe and letting themselves, "grow" a smart business move. They have much more then those two shows, they've set up merchandising deals with countries on Dinosaur King merchandise, and that were some of the help is coming from. 5'DS deals are being set up. They're pulling in 0.8's and 1.0's instead, of the 0.5's and 0.6's they were getting on a regular basis last year. Yes, I get that who says they need just shows to grow, I heard their having clothes and such licensed and being sold, Toonzaki is being promoted and airing anime and growing, and 4kids has made deals with the "The Dog" franchise. I say they should keep playing it safe and grow slowly, cause being rash will lead to a lot of trouble this isn't fiction it's real life and in real life you have to be careful about your choices cause they affect your whole future. If theirs any change they should make, it should probably be to bring Dinosaur King back to promote the merchandise and it may pull in some high ratings since it hasn't been on tv in a while.

I was thinking about that earlier this week too. Toonami aired more anime I think near the end of its run, but it mostly had a mixture of action cartoons. Although, airing shows like DBZ and Sailor Moon probably made it fairly popular back in the day. It would be nice if they had more action series in general, but I think mumbo made a good point about how this focus on anime is mainly because they had the most success with a few anime titles than most anything else they acquired.

That's unfortunately true about 5D's ratings. It's a fun show, but it just hasn't had a history of decent to strong ratings. It's usually lucky to get something like a 0.8, even though it's usually lower than that. I'm not sure if they'll wash their hands of it since they do seem to love using Yusei, along with Yami Yugi, to promote Yu-Gi-Oh! themed contests and promos. Still, I could see them airing Zexal sometime this fall, especially if Konami really wants to bring in Zexal themed cards. I thought about airing 5D's episodes along with Zexal too. It would be kind of like what they did with airing the last season of Yu-Gi-Oh! DM and then the first season of GX at the same time, except in this case it would be on the same channel. I'm not sure if they would have the money needed to dub two Yu-Gi-Oh! series at the same time again though.

[/LIST]
I was wondering if they would air that skipped filler episode for 5D's after they didn't do that after the Jack robot two-parter. I still think it was a good move to go right into the Crashtown arc after those two episodes. If this schedule is correct, I'm kind of disappointed that the original Yu-Gi-Oh! is taking one of the timeslots for 5D's. I know that it generally gets better ratings than 5D's, but it's kind of a shame when 5D's has brand new episodes and it's being replaced by reruns of an older series, although it's technically new for the block and possibly kids who haven't watched this series on their website.

Even with its first season, which was mostly filled with the kids meeting a new dinosaur card every week, I don't think that it could fulfill their E/I requirement. If it could have, I think that they would have tried that by now.

Ah, so it is. I haven't been on 4Kids' website for a long time, so I wasn't sure if it was still there. Especially since they haven't promoted it or used any of the characters for promotion in ages. It would be kind of nice to see that show on the lineup again since I thought it was fun, but it obviously didn't work out that well for 4Kids.

If 4Kids had the money to get either a new Sonic series or a Sonic X special, I think that they would have done that a long time ago. Right now, it would be too hard for them to even provide some funding into creating a new series. As for Viva Pinata, I believe that they still have that series, as they helped to make it, and there are some episodes that never aired in the U.S. However, I'm pretty sure that it couldn't be used for their E/I requirements.

I think it should be from 6:00am to Noon or 1:00pm, like it was back in the day.

6:00am-6:30am-Dinosaur King
6:30am-7:00am-Winx Club
7:00am-7:30am-Cubix: Robots For Everyone
7:30am-8:00am- Johnny Test
8:00am-8:30am-Sonic X
8:30am-9:00am-Viewiful Joe
9:00am-9:30am-World Of Quest
9:30am-10:00am-Animaniacs
10:00am-10:30am-Tom & Jerry Tales
10:30am-11:00am-Pinky & the Brain
11:00am-11:30am-Xiaolin Showdown
11:30am-12:00pm-Dragonball Z: Kai

People ask and they shall receive. There were commercials today that said Magi-Nation would be coming to Toonzai soon, more than likely to air as E/I programming replacing Cubix.

Breaking EXPO News!

So Kool! They are going to get license to ZEXAL and possibly air in the fall. Hopefully, they can still produce 5D's at the time being, if it isn't completed. Hope that at their booth they'll have something about the Yu-Gi-Oh Bonds Beyond Time DVD Release!
