4Kids Talkback: The Crossroads of Destiny - The 4Kids Discussion V10

Airing new shows in the summer's a bad move.

They get bad ratings all the time in the summer. They've tried it the past two years and the only time it really worked was in mid-late August and the ratings got better after Labor Day weekend.

I'm not convinced 5D's will end by spring. They still have about 50-60 episodes, which is about 6 months worth, even with double airings.

I would hold off of any long-term new series and put it on in the Fall.

I'm not sure how many Rocket Monkey/Tai Tai Chaser episodes are there, but they could try a brief short-term run and see how well it does.

Yeah, those are original. A couple of episodes were uploaded in HD using the original widescreen version from episodes 27 and onwards, but for some reason they went back to the cropped fullscreen version that airs on TV after a handful of episodes.

How about the version on Hulu though?
Is it widescreen? They just recently uploaded the entire series, except episode 50 for some reason (which includes episodes 75-79 which weren't available anywhere online before). I would check it out myself but I can't since it's region locked.

No offense, but WGN having 5D's at 2 in the afternoon's gotta feel kind of weird. I also see that WGN's going to have 5D's, the next week, at 3-4 PM.

Man, I feel bad for these affiliates. The block's all over the place. :(

According to Zap2it, my CW affilate KDAF is sticking to the normal schedule. Whew. KDAF has always been loyal to the Saturday morning lineup. I've been watching it since the Kids WB! days and never once do I remember them preempting the block. Affilate loyalty at it's finest.

Regarding 4kids promos during CW prime time, Smallville is in it's final season and won't return next year. Will they continue to air promos during the Friday 7PM slot regardless of what program is there? In my head, I'd like to think that 4kids places their ads during Smallville because most episodes are TV-PG, while all the other CW shows are TV-14. Granted, some episodes of Smallville bounce back between TV-PG and TV-14. If the rumors are true, then Supernatural is moving to the 7PM slot next season to anchor CW's Friday night block. Now, Supernatural is a graphic show and certainly earns it's TV-14 rating. I highly doubt Supernatural's audience is interested in Sonic X or Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's.

FYI, I'm an avid fan of both Smallville and Supernatural :p

I have to wonder why these ratings were so down from the previous couple of months where it seemed that 4Kids has really come into their own, almost nothing posted great ratings and it would appear that the heavy hitters on the lineup have slide off pace. Seriously, this report looks very much like the kind we were getting back around Christmas time and before when the block was barely coming anywhere close to a 1.0, I hope this past week was just a freak accident and things pick up for yesterdays broadcast, I would really hate to see 4Kids fall back down to these kind of ratings for good.

Well, as spring and summer come along and the weather warms up, kids are more likely to spend their time outside instead of indoors watching TV. I don't think the ratings will stay as low as a 0.6 average, but I kinda doubt we'll see really high ratings until the fall again.

Anyway, looks like one of the ways 4Kids is celebrating Sonic's 20th Anniversary is Summer Sonic X-Travaganza. Vote for your favorite episodes and they'll count them down all summer long starting Memorial Day weekend. Very similar to the TMNT Top 10.

I literally went, "What!" when I read that last sentence. Boy were you lucky!

I will admit that I've been a fan of he company since then, but I'll save my last comment for when it comes out of business.

This will be good for the company, Alfred Khan isn't known for making stellar business decisions and he has been holding the company back for a long time now, it's time to get someone fresh in there who can try to expand and so some good instead of sitting in one place doing a whole lot of nothing. I'm not a Khan supporter nor am I a Khan hater, I just think this will be a good thing for the company moving forward due to his track record.

Ditto. Whoever they choose as the new CEO I hope that person doesn't take too long in getting adjusted. He/she better be ready to devise a new game plan for 4kids and start implementing it ASAP. My hope is by atleast Summer or Fall there will be several new anime/cartoons airing on the block. Sooner if possible.

You still don't get it, do you? 4kids is trying to get new shows, it's going to take a while their are all types of rights to obtain, they have Tai-Chi-Chaser and Penelope, which they are dubbing right now. Second, I thought we went over this before, we don't know if 4kids has the money to pay a bill every month. Third, like stated before, 4kids is playing is safe going out and spending money like a drunkard isn't going to help but dig themselves a bigger hole, their are voice actors, writers, airing rights, this all has to be done, and 4kids is airing those repeats because they have to and a lot of them aren't doing half-bad. They certainly, are doing better then last year were they lost to ABC all the time and got a 0.6 and 0.5 overall now their pulling in 1.0's and 0.8's overall, which is a good improvement.

Every public company basically has to report their results every quarter, so their stockholders know how the company is performing, regardless of whether they make a profit, break even, or lose money. 4Kids has been losing money for about 5 years know, and every quarter they've done a conference call.

But you're right in that it's not like they say, "Well, we're giving up. It's hopeless." They always talk about new plans, projects and ideas that could be beneficial to the company in the future.

My affiliate, WUCW, will stick to normal.

However, at least from what I can remember, WUCW has never had anything pre-empt the block before. Unless I'm forgetting something.

No offense, but my CW station has: no news, no sports (except for some over-night shows and :D The Sports Show at 9:30 on Sunday nights), and nothing that makes it stick out. It's the most basic CW station you could think of.

No offense, but why does WGN have the Roses Parade on the 1st? What CW affiliate's carrying that or is it from another network? Also, what's with a "Roses Countdown Show?" Is that really needed?

All the shows will air after it and the block will end at 4 PM. I find that rather amusing: watching a Saturday morning cartoon in the late afternoon.

Also, I'm not sure about the Toonzai block airing a promo during the nighttime. I know they did it Sunday nights on FOX when the block aired there. However, I'm not sure if they'd do it, if they aren't going to hit some specific demographic.

During the block, a local comic book store airs ads (for me), which makes sense, with a anime targeted block. However, airing a kid's cartoon block during a adult show, doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Also, Light Lucario, Itaro was the artist for GX manga, not the creator.

A decent rebound from the previous week:
