2007 Golden Globes - Discussion

I really thought Steve Carell would have won too. I don't watch 30 Rock, but really Steve is just incomparable IMO.

So so happy for Hugh! :yay: He totally deserved to win again. And he gave probably my favorite speech of the night. I am speechless, I am literally without a speech. Hee.

And yay for Dreamgirls too! They did so well, and Jennifer Hudson winning the first award was the perfect start to the evening.
 
The Golden Globes probably do get it right more often than the Oscars and Emmys do because they divide things into comedy and drama. The Golden Globes does an interesting by dividing movies into comedy/musical and drama. The Globes have also recognized The WB with Keri Russell winning and I think Sarah Michelle Gellar was nominated one time for Buffy.

We went from dissing Reese "Banana" Witherspoon to talking about a movie nominated what was it 2-3 years ago! :confused:

Anyways.....who do you think gave the best/worst acceptance speech?

I liked the shocked speech of Whitaker--but you would think after winning pretty much every award out there, he would have had a tiny bit of a clue and had a little something prepared. But I guess if I was in the same boat--I'd be freaking out also!

Wasn't a big fan of Sascha's acceptance speech. Went on too long about the same joke--I think I would have preferred a sweet acceptance speech instead of the over the top one he gave
 
I think as long as the movie is released in theaters before the end of the year it qualifies. And even though some of the movies haven't been released in theaters yet, they have been screened.

I did expect Ryan Gosling to get nominated.

I've been thinking Leo's 2 noms in that category could hurt him which is sad.

I thought Matt Damon might get a nod, but I guess not.
 
Not a big fan of someone saying an actress/actor shouldn't have won and someone else should have if they haven't seen the movies they are talking about it. It's okay to generalize (I've done it in the past as well) a bit.
 
:lmao: LOVE IT! Everyone at my film school disses on Michael Bay hardcore! We shot a short film on a location that was used for Pearl Harbor and it was just hilarious. We call Pearl Harbor Michael Bay's masterpiece... Ahh man... I gotta go to bed. Night all :)
 
i think that the nominations were fair but the beyonce one is the worst for me
i saw dreamgirls today and i thought that it was an amazing movie but i thought that beyonces preformace was kind of dry. Jennifer hudson most definatly stole the show and i mean people were literally standing up in their seats and clapping for her. so i thought that jennifer should have been nominated for the lead actress instead of the supporting actress
 
Yeah...her best chance is for the song...I don't think anyone can even compete against that song. It's actually really good.

This is actually Oscar talk....but I'll put it here.
I'm actually a bigger fan of Brokeback Mountain...though I did enjoy Crash (but mainly because the acting in the film from everyone was top notch). I just think of it more as....20 years down the road what film will actually be remembered? I think BM has a better chance than Crash of being remembered. Same with the year that Shakespeare in Love won over Saving Private Ryan or when A Beautiful Mind won over Moulin Rouge...which film will be remembered 20 years down the road....not those movies that won. But oh well...I can't really fault the Academy, as much as I disagree with them--they do get it right a few times. :)
 
If it's out this year it could be nominated. It'll be out Christmas day!

I'm rooting for Cate or Emily myself in that category.
 
Yeah Beyonce won't win against Meryl. But seeing Dreamgirls again she did do pretty good. But her role gets good at the very end when she gets stronger and it's pretty short.

She's definitely going to win the Globe for her song Listen. Seeing the movie once I didn't pay much attention to the song but seeing it again...that song is so powerful but the movie and her character really enhance it's depth.

Because the song is a release for her character.

But Beyonce is going to win an Oscar...for Bst Original Song since she wrote the song that Oscar is hers
 
I had a friend explain The Departed to me and I can't stand movies like that. With this person playing this way and this person playing that way:rolleyes:

And I'm not a big Jack Nicholson fan

Last year's Oscars was better because of the controversy...you didn't know who was going to win so that made it exciting.

This year is going to be boring again. I hate how whoever wins the SAG wins the Oscar...it's like why watch the Oscars.
 
OMG, I just saw Hotel Rwanda a few months ago and it was wonderful. I cried so much, Don Cheadle probably gave the best performance of the 21st century.

He was awesome, he really made you feel for them more than anything.

Ray bothered me with all that heroin:rolleyes: Jamie did good. But performance wise Don should have WON hands down.

I hated The Aviator....that was 3+ hours wasted. I've never heard of Howard Hughes and even so his story wasn't interesting.


But yeah it should be about performance. But it's not. If it was Reese Witherspoon wouldn't have won....Felicity Huffman would have.

I haven't seen Transamerica but from the previews you can see that she gave an excellent, Oscar deserving performance.

Honestly, Reese's peformance was pretty blah and I love her as an actress but that role was blah
 
Fortunately, I live in San Francisco where the mainstream theaters such as AMC and Cinemark play an independent film or three. The downside is that it comes at an expensive price where admission can be $8-10+ on evenings, which later accumulates (spent somewhere over $200 on movies alone last year). I still would need to travel for foreign films though. I don't necessarily agree with this...

Because that's somewhat of a broad assumption. Most people that don't get to see movies until they're on DVD or on cable doesn't necessarily mean they're not "movie fans." Again, movies have gotten pretty expensive, especially when one is in college or on a budget... and even then, I try to catch a new release or two a week. Obviously, the advantage of watching them on cable is that it's free. Also, it's sometimes better watching them on DVD because you don't get interrupted if you've got a rude audience, plus you get multiple viewings. Besides, hype can be a good or bad thing.

That said, I still don't understand how Grey's Anatomy gets the praise and awards it does. It's such a conventionally bland prime-time soap with "pretty" people (read: Katharine Heigl). And Sacha's speech was hilarious - yes, my inner 12-year old thought so. I tuned in and out, but was pretty indifferent about the television awards since I haven't watched much of the nominated shows, except for Lost, The Office, Scrubs, etc.
 
i;m happy for dreamgirls of course...but how do nominations for the GG get chosen? since dreamgirls isn't officially out yet how was it able to be nominated?? lol i'm confused
 
Michael Mann is intended for more mature audiences. This is not a slam, but fact. He doesn't make films intended for teens, young females, or slam-bang action movies with no real purpose like Michael Bay.
 
You have to remember one thing about the Foreign Press Association...they are still better than the Emmy's, no matter how you slice it or dice it. They recognized Keri Russell (Have the emmy's dones that? Have they nominated anyone on a WB show?) and Jennifer Garner. They also gave Steve Carrell a GG and the Emmy's gave it to Tony Shaloub---again....They seem to be a bit more in touch than the Emmy's.
 
I cannot wait for the nominations, I realy hopes Leo gets nominated for only one movie. :crosses fingers:
