I enjoyed 21 Grams a lot but in no way can you compare the two. They are completely different films. I personally enjoyed Babel more because of Adriana Barazza's storyline. I think she was the strongest actress in the movie---some of her scenes had me not being able to breathe because I was so concerned about her character.

I didn't really feel for the characters in 21 grams.

I am also rooting for Little Miss Sunshine as well - i hope Abigail wins

Also i hope Leo wins, he's awesome

She beat out 782(i think thats the exact #) other people. It had to be so hard to do that especially having "idol reject" tagged on to your name lol. And she managed to pull off 1 of the most legendary broadway characters all time with ease. IMO, she has paid her dues, with going on Idol and then being kicked off way before her time((it was when she was kicked off that Elton John made that remark about the showing being "racist" wasn't it? cuz that was the week Jennifer, fantasia, and LaToya were the bttm 3)),performing on cruise ships and any place she could for years, just so she could get noticed

and i wanna bring up her race again(not about racism). But if i'm remembering right, Jennifer is only the 4th african-american woman in all 79 years to win an Oscar, isn't she? Her winning is going to be such a huge inspiration for young women of color who want to have an acting career, cause Jennifer came from nothing and managed to have such a successful career with her first major movie.

abigail shouldn't of gotten it. Even Alan Arkin said he didn't want her to win it on the red carpet. He said that she was too young and look what happens when children actors have huge career peaks @ that age. And i think he makes a valid point, like for example, Tatum o'neal's career never really became that huge after her oscar win @ 10 and plus all her personal problems she went through..and anna paquin(is that how her name is spelled?) hasn't had much success with her movies after her oscar win except for the x-men movies. And i don't tihnk Abby has paid her dues , seeing as how she only had bit parts in her movies before LMS.

That was exactly why Crash won, I could relate to practically all of the characters, I felt their pain, and in the car crash scene I wouldnt have wanted to be touched by the cop either.

It was a weird thing to do, storming off after losing. A few weeks ago the Iranian movie awards were given out and a movie was predicted to win but it didnt for whatever reason (I havent seen it yet) and the director just stormed on stage and apologized to the actors of the movie and started bshing the academy which was ver unprofessional of him and I thought that was only his childish behaviour and it wouldnt happen in Hollywood but Eddie Murphey has proved me wrong.

I was pleasantly surprised Will Smith was nominated as well as Naomi Watts.

These two are grossly underrated in my opinion and can without a doubt act... IF they are given the right material as in Will's case most of the time and even Naomi with stuff like "King Kong".

I think it would be great if NW beat out Meryl Streep and Helen Mirren -- not that these two aren't good actresses -- Because it would be a pleasant surprise and add a little unpredictability to the awards when you're watching them as well.

Well, if Peyton Manning can finally win one, then so can Mr. Scorsese. Three-6 Mafia 1, Scorsese 1.

I'm also glad that Arkin won since he was the best thing about LMS (still don't understand the hype over it though), but I'm guessing Eddie didn't win because of that potential Oscar nominee Norbit.

I was laughing at Ellen giving Scorsese a script and asking for a MySpace picture with Clint, but other than that, was pretty indifferent about Ellen.

The whole global warming bit was honestly just a downer for me. I mean the Oscars are suppose to be about celebrating the best in movies. It's also suppose to be about the winners.
I have always thought that either A Bug's Life or Toy Story was the best Pixar movie ever. I liked Cars a lot mainly because it was one of those cartoon movies where adults could watch it and and actually enjoy it. The characters in Cars really made the movie for me. I haven't seen Happy Feet but we kinda have seen penguins before i.e. Madagascar. The penguins in Madagascar were hilarious.

I would like to see Little Miss Sunshine win for Best Picture. For best male actor I think it will probably be Forest Whitaker, but I personally like Ryan Gosling. His movie, Half Nelson, has stayed pretty low beneath the radar, but it was really good. Here are a few clips from it.

HA! Don't get me started on Crash :lmao:

Maybe because I don't really know Jennifer Holiday that's why I wasn't impressed with Jennifer Hudson. Babel really wasn't that great at all but I would recommend watching it for Adriana and Rinko because they are both fabulous in it :)

6 nominations? somehow I expected more with all the movies hes made!

Ive been listening to 'Listen' by Beyonce a lot lately and its really growing on me, its a very nice song, and Im not sure if Ive heard the other songs but I really hope she wins.

Helen Mirren's got it in the bag this year. Those British people sure can act:eek:

I can't stand how movies that pretty much the "general" public doesn't see win stuff. Forest is a good actor but really who the hell saw The Last King of Scotland:rolleyes:

Im happy with the nominations, though they were predictable, I dont know how I feel about Dreamgirls I still havent seen it but I was extremely shocked to see it wasnt nominated.
I hope Marty wins, Ill be very disappointed if Clint Eastwood wins again.

Was anyone else surprised that Jack Nicholson didnt get a nomination? I thought he did a good job in Departed, of course I preferred Mark Wahlberg and was happy for his nomination thugh I doubt hell win but I also expected Jack to get the nod.

It wasn't just singing. Singing songs like AITYING and "I am changing" requires so much acting. If she would've just sang the songs, it would've totally ruined the moments in the movie. And her acting in the parts where she wasn't singing was great. She managed to pull off the "diva" attitude plus she did great when she had to do effie's "depressed, down on her luck" years after being kicked out of the group. You have to remember how Dreamgirls is loosely based on the story of Diana Ross & the Supremes, so not any actress could've pulled off the role of Effie.(Although i still think Beyonce was miscast. sure B was great at the singing, but Deena is based on the great diana ross and Beyonce did not come close to her lol)

Cars not winning didn't surprise me lol. I liked Cars, but i think compared to other Pixar films, it was not as good

I think Leo probably would have won if he had been nominated for The Departed.
I was shocked by Allan Arkin winning. I would have rather seen Mark Wahlberg win for The Departed.
I don't think there that many surprises. Maybe the Oscars would be better if there are more surprises. I think the Oscars just need to be advertised and marketted better especially the movies that are nominated. The production companies need to do a better job at getting people informed about the movies.

for me i would be happy with Jennifer or Cate winning. I haven't seen NOAS yet but from the clips i've seen she looks like she does an amazing job..and it has Judi in it which is awesome. And Jennifer i just love, since she took a role in one of the most beloved broadway musicals ever and managed to be Effie. Jennifer Holliday's shoes are hard to fill and J Hudson did a great job.

Babel i didn't see...but it got really mixed reviews which i think is weird for an Oscar film..i'm used to them mostly having positive reviews. But last year i guess "Crash" proved me wrong on that lol

See this is IMO what The Oscars shouldn't be about... paying dues. I think the actors and actresses should win no matter their history in the buisness. I think the academy gives way too many awards to people because it is time. Usually the award is not given for the part but the work in the Hollywood buisness in general. Even me I admit that I am guilty at this point of wanting people to win because it is time (like Martin S. The Departed was not is best work and best film like he said but it was time for him. I think he should have won for Gangs of NY, same thing with Leo Dicaprio who got robbed couple of years ago and should have won for Gilbert Grape... now I just want him to win). BUT it is when I see people like Jennifer Hudson winning and everything that goes with it that reminds me that the awards should be given for the part and not the work in general of the actor/actress. Just my opinion on the subject...

Biggest shocker of the night... Eddie Murphy losing but I was happy. IMO he wasn't that great in Dreamgirls so congrats to Alan even though I would have prefered the guy from Blood Diamonds who moved me to tears when I saw the movie.

Ellen was great. Loved the beginning when all the nominees were standing up, the Will-Jack-John song, etc. BUT wow way too long ceremony. I know it is 5h30 to ... for them but they should keep in mind that for us it is later (I think the west coast gets it also at night right?). I couldn't stay awake after the Celine Dion song which probably helped put me to sleep. I went to bed and saw the rest or read the rest this morning. I couldn't watch everything this morning so cannot wait to get back home and watch the Dreamgirls performances. I love the song Listen and Beyonce is stunning. Her tears when Jennifer won were moving. I think Beyonce's dad showed some tears also.

Still cannot believe Eddie lost... what a shocker. After that did anyone see him in the audience because I don't think I did and I wonder if he left?

What are your thoughts on Adriana Barraza, Cate Blanchett and Rinko Kikuchi? I wasn't a fan of Babel but Adriana and Rinko were the only ones that kept me watching. And Cate Blanchett was great in Notes on A Scandel. It's not her typical role which is great.
