My God, that was GENIUS! Helen Mirren is a hot lady so yeah! The part about Mark Wahlberg was truly funny!

Merlin_Bodhi they are rockin' indeed!!

i probably would've stormed off too if i was him lol. And I do think Steve gave a better performance than Alan did(and i hat esteve so much but i can admit that lol)

and eddie's publicist said eddie was planning to leave early no matter how it turned out. I know thats the only way he could probably explain the leaving without making eddie look bad lol. But if i was nominated, win or lose, i wouldn't wanna stay myself after my cateegory if i won/lost. lol i would be outta there really fast. If he was part of the performance he would've stayed

Weel, I was glad that departed won for best movie (some may disagree but okay ) I dont know i seen all of the other movies in that catagory and "The departed stood out the best for me anyways. :)

I'm shocked that Dreamgirls didn't get a Best Picture nom. Like i said earlier, I didn't expect it to win, but to not get a nom? That shocked me. I want LMS to win Best Picture. And i loved Salma Hayek's reaction when they announced Penolpe got a nomination lol

And I'm happyt that Jennifer, Will, Eddie and Meryl all got their noms:)

I was surprised that Babel got a Best Picture nom, since i read a lot of nagative critic reviews for it..like Crash...maybe Babel is the new Crash lol

I'm wondering how you could read into the comments about people not wanting Jennifer/Eddie to win being due to their race.

I'll clarify my opinion a bit (which I've actually already done on the Dreamgirls thread, this very thread and on the last movie watched thread).

Simply put---the other actors in their respective categories were all better than them in my opinion.

Like a fellow poster has said, I wanted Adriana to win because in all of her scenes, I could barely breathe. I was so frustrated with her situation, and I could actually feel her desperation---that to me is award winning acting.

As for Eddie, I wanted Mark Wahlberg to win because I thought he had a tiny role and managed to steal every single scene he was in. When he came on screen your attention was entirely on him--which is a hard thing to do considering who he was on the screen with.

And it was posted before by saying 'what could these two possibly have in common" hinting at their race, but the only thing relevant to this thread is the fact that they were both the stars in a movie that just wasn't executed very well. It had its moments (mainly the first 15 minutes) but the direction really kept this movie from shining--thus making it a movie where I didn't care about any of the characters.

To boil this thread down to people being racists is way off the mark--and I haven't noticed that tone at all.

I only thought that the person who actually gives the best performance should win the award---which is exactly why you won't hear me complaining about Forest winning---his performance was mesmerizing and multi-faceted and is deserving of all the accolades he has received.

I do think arguing about it now is pointless, as the awards have been handed out---but I thought it was creating a decent discussion.

And a note---I believe the count is between 20-25 for African American Oscar winners (this includes the other categories) but is still not a great number.

Best Actress Oscar opinions.

In my perfect world I would love to see Penelope Cruz win the Best Actress Oscar
at the 2007 Academy Award ceremonies. In her native language she's very very good, that's why she was nominated for her performance in Volver. I enjoyed that film alot.

I think that The Queen is grossly over-rated, along with the performance of
Helen Mirren.

I also think that Judi Dench gives a stronger performance and a better one, than Helen Mirren, for her role in Notes on a Scandal.

Wont they consider Leo in departed as well when they vote? I mean they must have seen him and have some sort of an idea how he plays, isnt it said that actors mostly get oscars not for the best roles theyve played.

I also agree Meryl Streep was definately supporting, Im not saying she shouldnt be nominated Im just saying its not worth a win.

I also really want Mark Wahlberg to win, he was amazing!

I have a feeling that The Departed is going to get it, though I havent seen it yet I've heard some great views on it from different movie sites, on here, and from people I know. I must see it soon!

Im just going to take a stab at it as far as who I think might win in bold.

Just something to get off my chest: felt that the ceremony ran a little too long and should have been over by 9 pm; it being over by around 9:20 pm PST is a little too long and clearly some of the categories that nobody really gives two hoots about could be cut and given at another ceremony prior to the live telecast. Maybe give one of the technical awards at the dinner that they hold a few weeks earlier. Its that or the musical numbers have to go; if the Globes and the Emmys can be done in about 3 hours, then so can the Oscars.

It wasn't entirely predictable. Dreamgirls got smacked with a big dose of reality today with not getting a best picture nod. United 93 was nominated for 2 Oscars including best director. Even Ryan Gosling got an Oscar nomination. There were some suprises.

Ellen was great but, I felt like the awards was dragging all night long... Glad to see Alan Arkin win for LMS, MS for The Departed.

Did anyone notice there was some tension between Tobey Maguire & Kirsten Dunst when presenting?

I would like to see United 93 get nominated. I also think that Cars should be nominated for best song.

Hi guys, I'm going a little off topic here from what is being discussed because I want to address another issue.

OMG BEST SPEECH EVER = FOREST WHITAKER'S SPEECH! It made me cry, being a huge sap that I am. I also love the fact that Leo and Ryan gave him a standing O when he won. It just proves something... that relatively young actors respect him.

Anyway, that speech is so real and came from a real actor's point of view. It is so inspiring. You feel like he meant it and that he treasures the award so much. I feel so glad when actors like him get this kind of recognition. Now if only Gary Oldman would someday be nominated and win......

i want Meryl to win best actress, and Jennifer H. to win best supporting actress and Eddie to win best supporting actor. And Will Smith needs to win Best Actor. I would like Bill Condon to win Best Director, but Martin Scorsese has to win sometime, i hope this is his year.. I expect Dreamgirls to get nominated for Best Picture..but i don't think it will win cause i read that no film with a mostly african-american cast has won best picture before...no idea if thats true, i just read it on msnbc.com i think it was. Although i want it to win so bad

i haven't seen ANY animated films this year...and i usually love seeing those

maybe abigail will grow on me as she does more roles. I just didn't care that much fo rher in LMS, cuz it just seemed like a typical little girl role for me. When i think of Dakota i think of "Hide & Seek" , for me thats my fav role of hers so far. The film is so flawed and predictable, but she was so great in it IMO

It should be Martin's year, he just won the DGA and that usually solidifies Oscar Gold! But I suppose anything can happen! I will tell you this if he does win he will get a standing ovation.
