Well, well, well... I see the heat has been turned on.

Look guys, let's not get personal. If we're going to discuss race we have to be very careful not to make generalizations about other people's thoughts on the subject, but we can't be insensitive if we think that race is not an issue.

You can argue both sides respectfully, realizing that opinions will vary.

Re: Crash

I think Crash had a good idea but the second half of the movie was atrocious. It was badly edited and it was too heavy handed to be fully enjoyed. However, it was my pick to win the Oscar and it won. I thought it was cool because the movie had an important message (that could've been delivered in a more subtle way) and a great cast.

Re: Eddie Murphy storming off

Eddie's been one of my favorite actors since I was a kid. I was rooting for Mark but had no doubt that Eddie would win it and I was happy for him. YIKES! Alan Larkin crashed my party and I have to say, I'm still dissapointed. Paul Dano and Steve Carrell gave better performances in "Little Miss Sunshine" I think. I don't blame him for storming off because he's human and he may have felt too conflicted to enjoy the show any longer.

I forgot to say that my heart broke a little for Peter O'Toole. The man is brilliant and nobody can touch him. He should've won a long time ago and I'm upset he didn't tonight. However, Mr. Whitaker's performance seems like it was The One this year.

Still, Mr. O'Toole, you need no Oscar. But I bet it would be nice as hell. There's still time, though. There's still time.

Judi Dench won for about 3 minutes! Its weird but I think its how much you use those minutes that matter, Alan Arkin was good but he wasnt as good as his co-stars IMO, I would have preffered it if Steve had been nominated. But Mark did steal very scene he was in, from the first one to the very last one, Djimon alo did a great job, conveying a lot of emotion, I saw 4 out of the 5 nominees for supproting actor (except Little Children) and Mark was the best, Eddie was the worst, Im not being racis or anythign but thats how it was, I havent seen all the best actor nominees but from what I saw in the clips Forest was the best! And I am glad that the academy gave the awards whilst comparing them to the other nominees, and not to their older work.

I was beginning to think I was a freak---Couldn't stand Dreamgirls and not impressed with the Queen---if memory serves me right, dreamwalker--you disliked them both also. Glad to see I'm not alone.

I hope that too. I also hope that Kate Winslet will finally get the Oscar this year because she totally deserves it.

I'm with you guys on the payoff. And, I find it insulting to someone who's been passed over, to just feel like they owe it to them, and award them...it's not fair to them, or others.

It's kinda how I felt back during LOTR and Mystic River. Jackson did an amazing job with the trilogy, and winning for the final one, was a great bookend...but I felt Eastwood did such a masterful job with Mystic River....but since it was the final LOTR, it's like he didn't stand a chance.

I would have loved LMS to win!

I already started my list on page 1 but I want to do as many cats as possible. Last year, I started really and got almost all of them right. But an hour and some minutes into the show, it was all downhill. I think I had Crash as Best Movie so I got lucky at the end. lol

Anyway. I'm finishing up my list soon. :D

I have yet to see Blood Diamond but I agree. Maybe I'll change my mind once I see BD.

I thought Little Miss Sunshine could take it. Such an amazing movie. Perfect cast. And it was so completly left out. To me, if Little Miss Sunshine had won and not The Departed I would have been way happier. But then again, when would the Academy give an Oscar to a movie like that? I was shocked it was even nomminate.

Barbra Streisand and Goldie Hawn both won Oscars for their first films. Barbra for Funny Girl and Goldie for Cactus Flower.

Edit And what's with the Alan Arkin hating up in here? I was personally hoping that Mark would win but I'm happy that Alan won. I think it's funny that some are saying he was barely in the movie and that he shouldn't have won/been nominated because of that... Uhh... He was nominated/won for a supporting role. Didn't Judi Dench win for being in a film for like 5 minutes? Anthony Hopkins won for Best Actor in Silence of the Lambs and he had only about 12 minutes of screen time. It's not about how much you were in a film for it's about the your performance and presence.

Overall, I was bored, but I watched it from start to finish. :)

Are you kidding me:eek: Meryl was excellent in DWP.

It was a typical movie. Not some indie comedy flick or some sappy biopic.
She was Miranda Priestly. I think she deserved that nom. A few years ago I didn't think Diane Keaton should have gotten a nom for Something's Gotta Give...that movie was blah and her role was okay

Dreamon: Did you post on the Blood Diamond thread? I would love to hear more thoughts from you on the movie as I also really enjoyed the movie.

I thought that JB, WF, and J.C.R were hilarious together but what does everyone picking on Helen Mirran? :D

I would have definately given the Oscar to Mark over Allan. Allan wasn't in Little Miss Sunshine that long. I know that Mark didn't have a big part in The Departed like Jack, Matt, and Leo but his character was important to the storyline especially at the end.

I'm the exact opposite. I was never as impressed with Dakota Fanning as others seem to be. She's adorable, no doubt about it, and she's not a bad actress either, but she can't compare to Abigail. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Dakota, she's just not as natural and endearing as Abbie is. Maybe I haven't seen enough of Dakota's stuff to really judge, but I'm actually surprised that the two girls are even being compared. As far as I'm concerned, they're in two different leagues.

the global warming stuff was great...ppl need to wake up and realise whats really important...and wats really a threat to the world
