Ridley Scott directed Alien. I've always preferred Alien over the sequels, although I loved Aliens when it first came out. Aliens hasn't withstood the test of my ageing years though, partly due to James Cameron's clunky dialogue, but Alien remains as excellent as it ever was.

I'm very interested why you chose Dario Argento's Inferno over some of his other classics? I usually expect to see Deep Red, or Suspiria. :)
