Beast Wars and Yu-Gi-Oh GX are two of my favorite shows. I suppose if I had to pick, Japan, since they have more experience with them. Most US toy shows were from the 80s where there was tons of bad writing and no-plot shows. Beast Wars is like the only exception I can think of.

I liked the L-5 part, and een/nine. And yay, it's been a while since an AD! musical number.
