i had a 98 with the same problem you need to take the door panel off theres 2 metal rods one for your lock and the other for your door handle there are some connectors that keep the rods on the door handle they could of broken and came off. so look for anything thats hanging or broken or thats...

how do you check or add fluid in your rear end ? there is no drain plug on the cover ? and how much fluid do you put in? it a late 80's 3/4 ton 14 bolt chevy
just go to the auto part store and tell them what you need and they be able to help you out. why are you changing your cables if the ends where you hook the cables to the battery are bad you can just replace them.

due to all the labor i would say around 500 to 600 for labor and the parts. do some shopping around labor cost can be from 60 to 100 an hour. and if you think they are fucking you around go somewhere else.
every car has parts numbers on them i would run the numbers and see if they match up. the tires would matter on the rim size and what type of tire you (name brands dont matter) have once agian just match the numbers.
