Zack and Miri Make a Porno

I'm a Kevin Smith fan, yet not really a gross-out comedy fan that Seth Rogen ususally turfs out.

Also read some poor reviews.
 
I enjoyed it more than I expected I would. I'd give it a 7 or 8 out of 10. Katie Morgan was adorable.



There was only one scene that was "gross". I don't think the film could really be described as a "gross-out comedy" unless you find sex gross.

It got 66% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, which is decent for a comedy of this type, and compares favorably to many of the other movies released this time of year.
 
Two stars from the Guardian, The Times and Time Out and the Daily Telegraph is really scathing:

...there's not a whiff of chemistry between our leaRAB, and Rogen's appeal is deflating in a big way: he just seems like a creep here.

Inept but sweet is the default mode of Smith's filmmaking, so when the sweetness goes you really are in trouble.

It'll be interesting to hear what Mark Kermode has to say about it.
 
i love kevin smith i dont care what anyone says

chasing amy was brilliant - a very intelligent film i thought about relationships (with dirty jokes)
 
Interesting.

Whereas i read a review bigging up the chemistry between the 2 leaRAB (as they've been frienRAB for years) & how he plays a fantastic 'everyman'.

Inept but sweet? I heard it was a big heart and a big brain. Smith always has decent dialogue mixed in with toilet humour, what more could you want?

Just don't listen to Jonothan Ross' review as he hates anything Kevin Smith does.

Didn't realise Zack and Miri... was a Kevin Smith film, I've loved a lot of his work. Chasing Amy is an excellent film, as you say, and very perceptive about relationships and peoples' insecurities. However, he blew it big time as far as I was concerned with Jersey Girl - a huge pile of schmaltz (I forgave him Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back). Doesn't sound as if this film is a return to form, and I really can't stand Seth Rogen and his whole 'I'm a fat slob but stunning women still sleep with me' gimmick, but I will try and reserve judgement and definitely give this a watch.
 
That'll be the second one then as Jersey Girl scored highly on that front.

S'funny how Smith has these counter culture credentials when really he's just a Star Wars fanboy with issues.
 
Agreed. Seth Rogen shouldn't really be allowed in movies, imho but Kevin Smith is a good director so I might go see it.

Doesn't look that bad.
And I thought Jersey Girl was sweet. :)
 
I think he'll be like Elliott Gould who was also a big star for a while playing schlubs before eventually fading away .

Within 10 years Rogen will be in some crappy sitcom like Two & A Half Men.
 
saw it today - loved it. very, very funny. bit schmaltzy in places but really enjoyed it - i'd even go as far as to say it's my film of the year.

i wonder how many people stayed long enough to see the trailer for "Zak and Miri make your porno" in the credits ? :)
 
I saw it yesterday - very very good. Although I could see what was going to happen very early on.

Nudity, scenes of sex, very crude and very strong language: Perfect. :D

them falling in love
was acted and written well but it just didn't seem to fit in with the tone of the rest of the film which was so so far away from all that mushyness.

One of the best I've seen this year though. :)
 
Saw this recently. I loved the hell out of it. So many people just gasped in disbelief at the "cake frosting" bit...then laughed their heaRAB off...that's a "shared" moment!

I may tire of Seth Rogen soon, but for this he was good enough to keep it all ticking along while I fell for Elizabeth Banks and let Craig Robinson and Justin Long steal the show.

Seriously this is worth checking out and make sure you stay at the end!
 
Saw this last night.

It was okay, but frankly I expect better of Kevin Smith - I expect smarter of him. He normally balances razor sharp dialogue and lowe rent dick jokes. This time we just got the latter.
 
I'm going to see this tomorrow night with my girl. Just how long should we stay after the movie finishes? Right till the end after all the credits have rolled? Please advise.
