I feel ur pain 3630STEPHEN.... this might help u!
i currupt my z500 imei today. i was flashing it this morning when the light(electricity) went away, when it came back i re-flashed it... after that i was unable to use my bluetooth and whenever i typed *#06# it said imei not active.
i tried to fix it with winimei V1.16 by writing new imei to my phone, but to no avail. This is how i got my bluetooth to work again and activate my imei. I went into the test menu and set a new BD address and i restore my NV backup. Now i can connect my phone to my pc using EasyStudio again and my bluetooth good 2 go!(working properly)

I unlocked my phone using the cable, and winIMEI method, and I haven't had any problems with sim errors after flashing my phone (which I've done 4 times with 4 different firmwares).
Try unlocking it that way, maybe its more permanent.

What is this 'firmware'.

I have a samsung Z500v aswell and everyone is saying its really good but i dont know, what it does? Can someone fill me in?

Firmware is a software program or set of instructions programmed on a hardware device. It provides the necessary instructions for how the device communicates with the other computer hardware. But how can software be programmed onto hardware? Good question. Firmware is typically stored in the flash ROM of a hardware device. While ROM is "read-only memory," flash ROM can be erased and rewritten because it is actually a type of flash memory.

Firmware can be thought of as "semi-permanent" since it remains the same unless it is updated by a firmware updater. You may need to update the firmware of certain devices, such as hard drives and video cards in order for them to work with a new operating system. CD and DVD drive manufacturers often make firmware updates available that allow the drives to read faster media. Sometimes manufacturers release firmware updates that simply make their devices work more efficiently.

You can usually find firmware updates by going to the "Support" or "Downloads" area of a manufacturer's website. Keeping your firmware up-to-date is often not necessary, but it is still a good idea. Just make sure that once you start a firmware updater, you let the update finish, because most devices will not function if their firmware is not recognized.

tientje: There is currently no tool that can read/backup your old firmware. Also there is no point to backup your firmware anyway. If something goes wrong so bad you can't flash it again then your backup wont help you, right? And if everything goes ok, or at least ok enough to put the phone in download mode you can flash again with another new firmware, what would you need your old firmware for? If you are so concerned i suggest you do not flash at all. Leave it for upgrade at an authorized samsung service spot.

i just flashed my fone now using the Z500REX03.1 software, and it worked like a charm first time. love it. out of interest, is there a way you can revert back to your old firmware ??
