Your Wants for Future S60 Versions

Hey all, just wanted to know what everyone else would like to see in some of the upcoming versions of S60 (be it v3fp1 or beyond).

My tops:

1.) More control over alerts at the contact level. In other words, I'd love to be able to set it up so that all of my SMS are on vibrate, except when my wife or a few other people SMS me, I'd get an audible sound. The Blackberry, for example, does this VERY well (though the interface on the BB to set it up is a pain in the arse).

2.) More control over browser calls: i.e. when I get a link in email, I'd like to be able to specify which browser is called on a link by link basis... maybe a popup that says "Opera or Nokia" or something.

3.) More control over what's displayed on the home screen. I'd like to be able to choose what's displayed... for example, right now I have my calendar and blackberry email displayed... but I wouldn't mind an option to display device status, or memory management (such as on PPC devices).

So what do you guys think?

Software sides:
1. More standby apps, 6 is too few IMO
2. Programs can access system folders again!! I really hate how it protects system folders in OS9. It would also be great if the nokia phone browser in the PC will allow more controls over these system folders as well.
3. Importing/Exporting messages from phones to phones, even different versions would be great
4. Default phone number for a contact are all the same. It's really annoying having to set voice call default and sms default seperately... What's the point??

Hardware sides:
1. Radios do not require headset -_-" This should be implemented a while ago
2. No more purple'ish photos!!

i have something similar on my e62 but i it works only on a set list of basic stuff like the address book. my big issue was using it for sms and email on my e62.

this may seem like a noob question but, what is FOTA. i've seen it mentioned a few times and i can't figure out what it is.

3. you can via the memory card (if you choose to save messages on memory card). What they need to implement is a way to transfer all messages from phone to memory card and back at will.
4. an option to set 1 number as default for all options would be nice so that you're not prompted everytime you want to send an sms or make a call
Firmware Over-The-Air....
I'd have to say that Nokia needs a back button like on Sony Ericssons. I can't deal with this "END" key business shutting down applications without warning and minimizing others. I prefered the Symbian V2 way where the app would close to the background (like a Blackberry).redo that garbage shortcut key that takes 5 seconds just to open. nokia, steal a k790a and learn what a shortcut key is for heaven's sakeas I said in the s60.com wishlist a simple integrated RSS reader is a necessity (again, steal a k790a and learn)better screen transitions. i hate when opening/closing/switching programs how it's some blocky effect as the screen transitions from one program to another. this needs to be refined...volume keys on EVERY phone (god....the simplest things....)status screen to see battery life, memory space left, open applications, etc....(the competition is your best friend...)fix your damn MMS so that you can receive MMS on Rogers...better message composition options and EMS support. i like being able to change the background colour, text colour and font size in an MMS on Sony. why can't I do this on a Nokia?I could go on forever....

... well that's basically it for me, FP1- which means we will see recuring alarm, font size changing capability, a2dp and with the commie a better PIM than the standard S60 PIM (which i consider, the s60's weakest point)

of course, i am also waiting for the promised Nokia's S60 with Touch Screen, if pantech can do it, i know Nokia can easily do it as well... i wonder what's keeping em... my curious mind is saying perhaps we can see an n-gage with TS...

PIM is definitely an area for improvement. I honestly think that Nokia should just buy out Papyrus or something and integrate it in.

My E62 can have simultaneous connections to my BT keyboard, Headset, and GPS. I may just throw in a transfer from my laptop at the same time to see if it can handle it.

a biult in magnification program and/or changeable fonts as well as a fully functional text to speech screen reader, not necessarily biult in but at least available. all the other programs with this sort of functionality have not been ported for anything past v2.6. and for said programs to work with a web browser as none of them do now.
]
also being able to stream content easier would be nice. i know i can be done but it's a pain in the arse. being able to save pictures directly from the internet would be nice too.

Here's my contribution:

1. I'd like to see a global setting for calendar events. For some stupid reason, from the 6620 to the N73 and E62, whenever I put in a calendar event, by default it's set to "private", which means it won't sync with my computer. I have to manually set it to public. That's the dumbest thing I've everheard of.

2. WHY THE HELL DID THEY "INTEGRATE" THE TODO LIST IN THE CALENDAR?? I used to use this heavily, but now I don't, simply because you have to open calendar, go to a day, click options, new entry, scroll up once, THEN you can add a todo note. THAT"S RIDICULOUS!!

2(b). Managing to-do items - Let's say you've got your list pulled up, you're plowing through them, how do you mark them as done? You'd think you could just click on it, right? Or maybe at worst use the "pencil" key to mark it done. NOPE. You have to click options, then scroll down one, THEN click Mark As Done. That's freakin awful.

3. Agree with Olly on the browser pick.

i want a paper shredder/microwave over and maybe a potato peeler please!!!

lol, i would actually want PIM functions to be reconsidered, id want S60 developers to take a look at Palm's PIM functions and compare it with theirs...

other than that, WE WANT BATTERY LIFE (i know thats not SW.)

from my 8125 days, i want a flashing led when the phone is in sleep mode that changes color when you have a missed call or text message. then you don't have to awaken the phone to see if you missed something.

FOTA = Firmware upgrade Over The Air.

means u can update your fw without the need to connect to a com or use nsu!..which is great!

All what olly stated ... especially the memory meter... and a FireFox like web browser. I also want nokia to stay with ONE memory card and power adapter format. I know its not apart of s60 but it will still cut down confusion. also more S60 3rd edition programs like Netmonitor and Cell track. Also TCPMP and FExplorer.

Wirelessly posted (Series 60: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Symbian OS; Nokia E61/0618.06.05; 9730) Opera 8.65 [en])

FExplorer! Holy hell that needs to just be integrated as well! Abd for the browser, some tabs would be nice, since Opera can have multiple pages for example.

Better Mac integration. Maybe a "Mac Suite" to allow USB modem connections, backup, contact transfer, etc.

Fix the syncML bugs with recurring events and all day events.

Trickle charge off of USB (ok, that is a hardware feature, not an OS feature).
