Your fave FOREIGN LANGUAGE movie??

actually have never seen it - rented it on dvd and it was a dubbed version - I cannot stand dubbed films so had to turn it off. Will have to get that sorted.
Similarly I cannot find a non-dubbed version of City of the Lost children . . . woe is me.

My favourite is "A La Folie...Pas du Tout", known in English as "He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not". It was released the year after Amelie, but Audrey Tautou's role is much darker. I love it, even though I know the plot now.

City Of God
Amelie
A Very Long Engagement
Infernal Affairs
House Of Flying Daggers
La Chateau de Ma Mere/La Gloire de Mon Pere
and the simply breathtaking Lady Vengeance

I recently saw Zwartboek which was a good film too

Battle Royale was very good, even though I couldn't be bothered with the sequel. I gave up on it after half an hour.

I've not really watched many foreign films, it's just about now that i've started.

La Haine
Amelie
Jean De Florette
Tell No One

(I love French films!)

I also recently watched The Class, which I enjoyed.
Pan's Labyrinth was good too.

Run Lola run...fabulous.

Delboy...glad to see another Betty Blue film fan!

I am obviously sadder (or not) than I think as I pretty much know of or have seen of all films listed here!

I am a big Rohmer fan actually..I forgot 'The Green ray' and Luis Bunel got me into foreign films when I was a wee nipper.

'The discreet charm of the bourgeoise' is a classic.

And how did I forget 'Le Diner de cons'?

Oh so so so many I love!

That was a bit like me a couple of years ago. I was in HMV and I saw the foreign DVD shelf and went and bought a couple of films I had heard the names of but never seen (impulse buying is great! :D ).

Sat down to watch them and thoroughly enjoyed them. That just made me go and buy more that I'd heard of and had been recommended. It was only then that I discovered what a great wealth of good foreign language films were out there; usually complete polar opposites of the repetitive drivel being churned out by Hollywood.

Reading subtitles has never bothered me. I speak a few languages, too, so that's helped, I suppose. I just tend to like foreign language films because they tend to be a bit more experimental/creative/original or take more risks than Hollywood films do. That's what cinema's all about for me - I want to go on a journey. I want to see an interesting film. Often, I find the most satisfying are films in a foreign language.

*shrugs* apologies for the rant. :D
