Would You Watch British Wrestling

Vic Faulkner is also a bloody nice bloke, bought me a pint a few years back and I've spoke to him on a couple of occasions on the telephone.

He is 11 years younger than Bert, just a bit of random trivia there.

God this is taken me back. I can also remember watching Owen Hart and the British Bulldog wrestling on the British version before the WWE took them over to America.

Can I just say I am loving this thread. People agree with me, people disagree with me, people have different opinions, people are sharing knowledge, but I am loving having a conversation about one of my first loves, British Wrestling. Cheers peeps :)

FWA - Brilliant British wrestling promotion. Got a couple of their DVRAB, been to a live show and met a few of their wrestlers (including Doug Williams who's now in TNA).

You cant fault low budget if its scripted well imo.

I produce a weekly radio show which has been going for over 3 years and has a large amount of loyal listeners, to wit, I have an ounce of creativity, and I would much rather watch a realistic wrestling match.

People are allowed to have different tastes.

BC was indeed high up in the scheme of things as well as being a referee I seem to remember Haystacks clobbering him leaving him with the all mother of a black eye

Jackie Pallo & Les Kellet - they're the two I could picture but couldn't remember the names.
I used to love watching the wrestling with my mum. Always remember when Kendo Nagasaki was wrestling we waited with baited breath for someone to unmask him lol.
Didn't Mick McManus deal in antiques? It seems a world away from wrestling.
Anyone remember any other wrestlers from that time?

and Peter Thornley, our Kendo, was the original Kendo Nagasaki.

There's a KN wrestling in Japan as well.

FWA is a really good promotion, never seen it live, but I own a few VHS tapes from it's first incarnation.

I also believe you can't fault going to your local promotion. Back when I lived in Gateshead, I was a regular at IWF shows. Thoroughly entertaining.

and I totally agree with your budget comment, as I echo'ed earlier.

I'm presuming it was, that is the annual Brit Wrestling meet.

FWA started life as the Fratton Wrestling Alliance in 1993 before becoming Frontier Wrestling Alliance in 1999.

I'm afraid I don't know the wrestling promotion you are referring to.

Bret Hart wrestled over here as well as "Cowboy" Brett Hart.

I think it was some deal that Dale Martin had with Canada's Stampede Wrestling, of which Owen, Bulldog and Bret were involved with, as well as, I think, Tom Billington, also known as the Dynamite Kid. (I'd highly recommend his biography from a few years ago, awesome read)

Japanese legend Jushin "Thunder" Liger also wrestled over here, under the possibly slightly racist name of Kwik Kick Lee.
