Correct spelling isn't anything to do with being a pseudo-intellectual. It's part of the basic literacy skills that everybody learns at school, and whilst some people find it easier than others, in an environment like online, where spell check is so readily available, it's just plain lazy to misspell things - especially on Yahoo! Answers, where there's a big notification every time you spell something incorrectly in an answer.
That said, I tend not to correct people's spellings online, partly because it's none of my business, and partly because, believe it or not, I DON'T want to make people look daft. The only times I'll mention poor spelling are a) if it's so bad I genuinely don't understand what's written, and b) if I'm being asked to read through or edit a piece of writing, such as an essay or an application form. In the first case, I can't answer the question properly because I don't know what it means. In the second case, it's in that person's interests to spell words correctly, because if they don't then they will be judged negatively for it.
