Would playing the guitar affect my drawing abilities?

I'm absolutely passionate about drawing, and have been my entire life. Lately, I have been wanting to take up an instrument, so I chose guitar. But I've heard the strings on the guitar can cut your fingers, or give you calluses and things like that. I was wondering if someone could tell me if playing the guitar would affect my drawing in any way, and if so, what would happen?
