Worst father in animation

Shake doesn't count because he wasn't Ezekiel's father. At the end of the episode, Frylock ran a DNA scan and revealed that not only were Shake and Zeke not related, but Zeke was in fact older than Shake.

Depends on the type of show. In comedy shows there is a BUNCH of them...I mean there are almost no good fathers in comedy shows. Peter Griffin, Mr. Turner (Fairly Oddparents), Homer Simpson, Bender (Futurama), and other comedic fathers are all pretty bad.

In action shows, I'm pretty sure the list is shorter due to the more serious take.

In fairness to Ozai he did seem to at least value and respect Azula in a "We can rule the galaxy together" kinda way. It's probably as close to real love as Ozai is capable of.

I'd probably nominate DCAU Darkseid myself. While Norman and Ozai made token gestures of giving a damn about their sons, Darkseid pretty much treated Kalibak like expendable cannon fodder and took every opportunity to remind Kalibak of that fact.

Ozai, by far. He was a complete sociopath concerned only with his own power.

And Clay Puffington should be on that list somwhere. He was pretty much human garbage.

already lister I'd have to say Timmy Turner's father from The Fairly OddParents. He may love his son, but he definitely is NOT on Mr. Turner's list of priorities!

Peter Griffin. Ozai may have been a worse person overall, but at least he was predictable. Peter could snap and kill his kids at any time, and even he wouldn't see it coming. He's really one of the most terrifying characters ever created, if you think about it.

Peter Griffin without a doubt, but now i see it's a trend to have bad and nasty fathers. I find them even in some fan-characters profiles online. Where's the fathers who actually care to their family and act like real mens?

It's not just a problem in animation, it's a social trend problem i think.

Norman Osborn, by a long mile, is the worst father. At least Ozai cared about Azula and Zuko in a twisted way. Osborn injured and used his drug-addicted son just so he could get away with his crime. That whole line about being proud of Harry and going to jail was pure BS, and I can't believe most of you fell for it.

Clay comes at a close second.

Yeah, this poll seems to have way too few options... on my list of possible choices:

- Timmy Turner's Dad: Him and his spouse leave Timmy alone with an awful babysitter (and ignore Timmy's various complaints about being left alone with Vicky/being ignored by his parents period), and both go out of their way to spend as little time with Timmy as possible. That and their general stupidity, as well...

- Peter Griffin: What the others said (and one of the various reasons I don't like "Family Guy"). Everything about him is like nails on a chalkboard (or second-rate-Homer-knockoff)...

- The fathers on Rugrats: If it weren't for their infant children constantly wandering off and getting into danger, they'd be pretty good parents... :-p

- Stan Marsh: Seems rather dimwitted at times, plus anyone that raised a mean-spirited thug for a daughter like Shelly clearly goes in the "fail" column as a parent.

- Butter's father: As others noted, a few instances of out-and-out abuse of Butters; not sure if this is worse than raising a daughter that beats her younger brother up regularly while ignoring it, but Butter's dad's on the list anyway.

-B.

Everyone pretty much said what I wanted to say about Peter Griffin. I voted Ozai mainly because that man was downright twisted. He banishes Zuko and Azula's mother, tells Zuko that he's "lucky to be born", burns off half his face and banishes him, and I think Azula was also being manipulated. Sure, she may have been his favorite, but she goes ballistic when
(possible spoiler for those who haven't seen the show)
Ozai told her that she couldn't go raze the Earth Kingdom with him. To compensate, he makes her Fire Lord (Lady?). And she kept descending into madness afterwards.

Donald duck deserves a mention for the way he treats his nephews. Granted, he's not nearly as bad as some of the other examples mentioned here, but still probably among the worst fathers (well, father figures, anyway) seen in golden age animation.

Which raises the question of where Huey, Dewey & Louie's actual parents have been for the last 73 years while the triplets keep bouncing back and forth between Donald and Uncle Scrooge? This is something that's always bugged me. Has Disney ever given any official answer on this? I mean are they orphans or what?

Well, TV Tropes offers a possibly chilling explanation. It is stated, apparently, in the first episode Huey, Louie and Dewey appear that their father was in the hospital from injuries that his boys accidently inflicted on him. After that, the father is NEVER mentioned again suggesting that their father never came BACK from the hospital!:ack:

Oh, that's not the half of it.

Even before shooting Orel he also have out heavy amounts of neglect and emotional abuse. He then takes him on a hunting trip he never wanted to take, berades him viciously when he doesn't want to shoot an animal (and not even for food really, more for the purpose of killing something).

Then in a dunken stupor he shoots his son. And then leaves him lying in the woods, shot, hungry, cold, and hurt for an ENTIRE DAY while he sleeps it off.

Then when he wakes up, he calmly scolds Orel for getting himself shot, rips up the kid's favorite lucky shirt for a bandage, and then yells at Orel for bringing along the First Aid that would have helped out his gun injury.... if he hadn't drunk down all the rubbing alchohol.

Not only that, but he's entirely aware that he's done all of this and doesn't care. In fact, he upfront tells him "I'm glad I shot you" later on.

And I'm not even sure that's the worst of it either.

I don't know if Clay Puppington is the worst animated father ever, but in my book he's way up there for sure.

You know, this is what I mean when I made the "Adults in Animation" thread. Are there any good fathers in animation? And Why no anime examples?

Also, when will the worst Mothers in animation come up?

In defense of the Rugrats' fathers, most of them (with the exception of Charles Sr. until after the 1st movie) aren't raising their kids by themselves. Their mothers weren't any less neglectful/oblivious.
