Wondering if I should give up the love for poetry writing?

I wanted to know if I have any possible potential to become a good writer, or should I stop writing poetry and venture into something else?
Any opinions or advice appreciated thanks!

I am not a Poet

I am not a poet, just an admirer of words unspoken
Voices unheard, and beauty not felt,
I am not a poet, but just an apprentice of complex sentences,
A person who has not moon walked with the greats, such as
Frost, Poe, and Whitman, but has lost gravity, spacing out to the words they have written.
I am not a poet, but I find myself constructing 9th wonders in the form of a prose, which in Latin means straightforward, which correlates with my writing as I am trying to get my point across.
I am not a poet, but wonder how many different shades of black can there be to illustrate the moods of a single being.
I am not a poet, just a boy who gazes into the galaxies, hoping that his words will extend beyond many planets, inhabited by species with unknown languages.
I am not a poet, but will someday use his words as a guiding light that will be seen by souls who have not been given the gift of sight.

This reads much more like prose than free verse poetry - mainly because there is no metrical structure, the grammar is very prose-like, and the structure seems arbitrary. In essence, I agree: you are not a poet. I think you should stick to prose, or learn more about what poetry is, and how it differs considerably to prose (and your piece above). Good luck.

My advice is learn to speak Dutch. I think you do have talent, that is for sure, but poetry is not a well marketed or sought after medium in America. So, will you ever be able to make a living off poetry alone possibly if you don't plan on having children and can live off OBJ everyday for the rest of your life. I don't know of a single living poet (in the States) that can support themselves on poetry alone, many of them are teachers too. That is why I said to learn Dutch, they are the biggest consuming market for poetry.
This shouldn't make you stop writing and to tell you the truth "I don't believe the whole the Artist chooses to create" argument, I think the artist "Cannot help but create, it is a compulsion, not a choice". Good luck.
