Wizard ranks top 100 cartoons?

I'm not sure I follow.... What "anime effects" exactly?

Spongebob has a much bigger impact on the animation world that Gargoyles did. I don't see a problem.

That's because you're not OLD. She-Ra (the Wonder Woman to He-Man's Superman), Jem & the Holograms (chick toon), & Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors are relics from MY youth (early 80s).

The Critic starred SNL alumn Jon Lovitz as tv film critic Jay Sherman. Jay's had a few appearances on the Simpsons because the producers had also worked on that program. The series was famous for illustrating hilarious film spoofs such as Rabbi P.I. and Edward Plungerhands. The series was syndicated on Comedy Central along w/ Duckman a few years ago. The complete series is available on dvd.

they should revise the top ten
1.the simpsons: because they make a good point that it's the longest running sitcom' the awards and that it started adult animation in genrel they would be crazy not to make number 1 even by default
2.batman:TAS: it raised the bar for super hero cartoons
3.looney toons:because it's freaking bugs bunny nuff said
4.fat Albert: I could go on that it's one of the first cartoons staring afrcan americans it was still funny and had a heart
5.x-men TAS: I know like most great marvel animated show it goes under the radar of critics but it was first saturday morning cartoon I saw that dealed with long storylines with racism death and charter confilics it even had a episode about relgion
6.Jonny quest: see the story in wizard
7.the flintstones: there be no simpsons or fanily guy without them
8.Alvin and the chipmunks: I know I wasn't the only one confused that they
put with the worst cartoons of all time  we all know that isn't true 9.Arthur: I know it's PBS and unshamefully aimed at kids but it's still better than battle of the planets 10.scooby doo: nuff said

Upon reviewing this list I believe it's the same list from 2001. Has Wiz updated this list since? If so, I can assure you that the likes of Justice League (Unlimited), Avatar, Megas XLR, TMNT (2K3), Samurai Jack, Afro Samurai, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Venture Bros, Star Wars: Clone Wars (Genndy)Teen Titans, & He-Man (2K2) would be on said list. The Boondocks as well. And in a few years The Spectacular Spider-Man will be eligible for inclusion.

The DC/Marvel/Hellboy DTVs would be disqualified because they were not television programs. I wonder if The Amazing Screw-On Head would make the cut though.

Just want to point out a couple of things:

1) In regards to the statement made about Arthur: Your opinion =/= fact, thus why lists of this nature are fundamentally flawed; They're all based on personal opinions. Everyone has a different of what's good and what's crud.

2) That list is from 2001. Seven years ago. Kind of late to be making a fuss about it now.

Even though I don't like Spongebob, I'm willing to admit there are times it can be pretty funny. That being said, Spongebob's proportionate quality as a comedy comes no where near Gargoyles's proportionate quality as a drama.

Of course, the two shows really aren't that comparable if you want to get really technical. I just think, on the whole, Gargoyles was a far more impressive production.

For anyone interested, Wizard just put up a clearer version of that character spread on their website:

Very sudden character movements, such as characters jumping up extremely fast and landing very fast.

During a fast-motion action sequence, sometimes a character would be in front of a background that is stressing motion (ie. the bg is one color and there are black streaks whipping by to emulate motion)

The eyes will often do this: :anime:

Just watch it, you'll see what I mean.

That's not really exclusive to Japanese animation...

What does Rugrats have to do with Spongebob/Gargoyles? I'm not sure how you can deny Spongebob has made a bigger impact than Gargoyle did. Gargoyles was an good show, but it has nothing on Spongebob's recognition.

As others have pointed out, context is pretty essential to discussing this list. But again...this is Wizard. They're the only ones who would make this list to begin with.

Spongebob has a much bigger impact on the animation world that Gargoyles did. I don't see a problem.

Gargoyles did a lot of very, very cool things and I respect the show a lot. But it's also rather haughty in many ways. The other cartoon shows on the list didn't take themselves nearly as seriously (even S Jack was kinda tongue-in-cheek at times) so I can see why Gargoyles is generally less beloved by the public. You have to take the show seriously, or you won't take it at all.

I can't believe that every year someone comes accross the list and treats it as if it's brand new, or how many people treat it serious.

As I think I said in my first post, I stumbled across the list for the first time without knowing when it had been printed. I'm not taking it to be anything other than something we can all gab about.

Top 5 Cartoons Based on Toys

Really? No Masters of the Universe? REALLY? You've got to be joking.

Top 10 Fly Cartoon Ladies

No She-Ra? :anime: This list is bogus. Jasmine got a movie. Don't even try to tell me she was nearly as cool as She-Ra on that tv show. I remember watching it purely to pass the time. It wasn't that hot.

I will say that South Park definitely deserves a high place on the list, I think, not just for its parodies of pop culture, but for the clever way it examines so much of what we take seriously in life. Great show. Daring in an age when that expression usually means nothing.

I see that Scooby Doo is No. 1 on the Top 10 Worst Cartoon List. Call me cruel and flame me but I really agree with Wizard when it comes to that show.
