Will you please educate me on the courting rituals of christians?

...specifically American Christian fundamentalists. I try to study them here in their native habitat, as they intrigue me. However most of the ones I know now are married. So, I'm asking for a little help studying the younger, single fundamentalists. I used to be one, and I'm wondering-

1) Do they still have the promise ring thing where they give each other a ring to signify the waiting to have sex till they're married?

2) Do some churches still recommend "courting", rather than dating, claiming dating is a "worldly" thing that leads to sin? If so, how common is this? (by "courting" they mean dating ONLY to see if the person is someone who you'd marry, & not dating for dating's sake)

Thanks. I'm just trying to stay in the loop since leaving church several years ago. Need to stay up on various aspects of Christianity if I'm to be knowledgable enough to comment on it:)
bob b- that IS sad.

what's your understanding of a "fundamentalist"? i consider myself one but it's nothing like what the people on YA think a fundamentalist is....i'm not socially awkward.

i've been married for 3 1/2 years now, so i don't quite fit your criteria but since i'm still new at it i'll give you my two cents.

i never gave my then fiance a promise ring. we knew how we felt about each other and were confident.

we never "courted." we dated. i dated a few other girls before i met my wife but they weren't "marriage" quality for me. there's nothing wrong with dating for fun, although i believe it shouldn't be taken seriously.
