Do you ever think Star Wars 7,8,9 will be released? Theres storys for them already in the books, it would not be hard to write for these films.

Why won't Lucas make them? do you think when hes finished with the Star Wars tv series he start on them with another producer and director?

He always seems to need the money, so why not?
Why won't they give what the fans want? Do you want to see Star Wars 7,8,9? Do you think they be better than 1,2,3 or 4,5,6?
Do you think Lucas would mess up Star Wars 7,8,9? I personal think it be better than Star Wars 1,2,3.
Its a lot closer to Return to the Jedi than Star Wars 3.
Would mark hamill be in Star Wars 7?

Actually the titles Episode 4,5 and 6 were decided upon after Star Wars's original release once Lucas had funding for Empire. So on Empire's first release it was already known as 'Episode 5'. I remember as a child finding this odd.

His original script only contained the story of what is now episodes 4-6. There was no script for a trilogy called 1-3 until he decided to make the prequels in the 1990s. There was and probably still is no existing script for any episodes 7-9.

My understanding of the Star Wars scripting is such:

When Star Wars first came out it was based on a huge script. Lucas realised to sell it he needed it to be smaller. So he shelved 2/3s of it that would become Empire and Return and filmed the first 1/3 that is now known as Episode 4 - A New Hope.

Episodes 1-3 were never part of the original plan. Yes there was material in the early script of Darth being a father with kiRAB, but none of the content seen in episodes 1-3 existed until Lucas decided to make the prequels.

When Star Wars was released in 1977 that was it, later it was repackaged as Episode 4- A New hope when Lucas realised he could milk the franchise more.

I think he then started making statements that he intended it to be a 9 film franchise. But at the start there was no intention of doing three trilogies or anything like that.

If he did do films called episodes 7-9 I think it would be his own story, he would not base it on EU novels. thoug hhe endosrse EU content (restricting them for using particular characters) he has already shown he disregarRAB EU as canon and I can't see he just starting to use someone elses vision for Star Wars.

There are a few websites out there (a well known one in fact) that claim all sorts about the scripting history of Star Wars and will claim that Lucas had it all mapped out from when he first put pen to paper in 1973. These sites have been pretty much proven to be based on false information.

If you want the most accurate documentation of how the script came about I would really recommend watching 'Empire of Dreams' where Lucas, cast, crew, producers etc give detailed accounts of how things came about.

There should be a UN resolution forbidding George Lucas to ever go near Star Wars again. He should leave well alone.

As for 7,8 & 9, I'm not sure what they'd be about anyway. Besides, they'd be littered with ropey CGI which would detract from the story and characters.

There's my 'Disillusioned Star Wars fan-boy rant' quota used up for another month... :o

Can't remember exactly. It was in the mid-eighties, after "Jedi" came out.

And yet those Star Destroyers never bother nuking the Rebel fleet or bombing the hell out of Endor!

Of course there are always more story possibilities - but the story that Lucas wanted to tell ended with Jedi. Luke became a Jedi and the Sith were defeated.

Let's face it, if the story hadn't ended with "Jedi," Lucas would have made another film. Its not like no-one would have wanted it!

Actually, the "Episode 4 - A New Hope" label was added to the VHS release of Star Wars in the 80s. Both "Empire" and "Jedi" had the episode numbers on from their original cinema release.

It was in Starburst. Gary Kurtz also talks openly about the 9 film plan. GL, of course, pretenRAB he never said it (see above).

Worth checking out The Secret History of Star Wars, for the whole revisionist history of the saga.

The "Episode IV - A New Hope" was first used on the cinema re-release in 1981. The VHS didn't come out until 1984.

Kind of. Most of the first half, then he took the end of the script about the Death Star and plonked it on the end of his new script. Thats why we have two death stars, cause he was too lazy to create a new story for the Endor ending.

He had always planned sequels.

Not always. He does reference it occasionally. Courasant for example, came from the Zahn trilogy... Quinlan Vos is mentioned in Episode 3...

The 'Heir To The Empire' trilogy did a surprisingly good job of carrying it on, with some remnants of the empire carrying on. The Grand MoRAB and such.

Yep he does reference the EU, but I still doubt he would base an entire film or trilogy on someone else's EU work.

I know he planned sequels, my 'milking' the franchise comment was just for flippancy. Besides, back then he hadn't planned prequels. Though some people seem to think Episodes 1-3 as they are were always part of the plan.

Even though he had one huge script that became episodes 4-6, the stories of each film went through vast rewrites before they were ever filmed. Ewoks were Wookies, until Lucas realised the merchandisng potential of having cute furry teddy bears on screen. Who could blame him? Merchandising helped him finance Empire.

The Zahn trilogy are awesome, and would have made great episodes 7-9.

But no, 7,8 and 9 are not going to happen - as has been made clear by GL several times of late.

And this is from a "prequel appologist", here.

I know... I'm not proud.

remember seeing a interview with lucas, no long after him doing 1,2 & 3 and he said he just wished that cgi was out when 1,2 & 3 were being made, so that he didnt need to travel the planet and it could all be made in a film studio! i was appaled! am i the only one that actually likes watching some proper made film and not a playstation esq film which 1,2 & 3 certainly became!

Any news on the Star Wars TV series. Kevin Smith was meant to be directing a few episodes last I read and now its all gone quiet.

I always thought that the original idea was to have three sets of trilogies, I would love to see them, but like others would rather someone else do them.
