The hard drive in my five year old Compaq Presario SR1410NX is making constant grinding noises whenever in use, indicating that its lifespan is almost over. That hard drive is older and only holds a maximum 80GB. Because of its approaching death, I plan on getting a newer hard drive soon with a higher capacity. My initial plan was to simply reinstall Windows XP and my other apps and salvage my other files from backups. However, my computer didn't come with an XP install disc, but rather a set of "recovery discs". Since these discs were designed for the 80GB partition, will they be able to use the extra storage space on the drive, or will the partition be limited to the 80GB of the old drive? Or is it possible that I could use a different program to partition the drive prior to running the recovery discs? Any insight to this dilemma would be greatly appreciated.
