Will my amp hurt my speakers?

Hi all, I just bought a 4 channel amp outputting 50 watts to each channel. My front speakers can handle 2-135watts rms.

But my rear speakers are rated 2-40rms.

Since the amp outputs 50 and the speaker is only rated up to 40, will that be bad?

Yes (if you turn it up). To stop that from happening perhaps turn down the 'level' on your amp for the rear speakers to like 70% rather than 100%

You will blow the smaller speaker if you 'crank' them.
You can put a small ceramic resistor in the line to
protect the samller speakers.
