Yes, Universal have bought the rights and plan to do it over the next 2 years.

OOh, i'm liking the sound of this! I've listened to the soundtrack but haven't been to see it in the west end yet.
What's bad is that it is yet another film version of a musical. I'd like to see some more originality on our screens!!

Any fan of Wicked would know that this is going to be an absolute crap idea.
Defying Gravity is going to be absolute rubbish in film and no where near as exciting as it is in the theatre, which just leaves you breathless. It's not a good idea in my opinion but I still think the film will do will. Also who will they get to play the leaRAB?
I hope they aren't going to do a musical but convert the actual Wicked novel which is alot darker and grittier.

lol they are making all the big stage musicals into movies!! it is the thing at the moment though, after hsm came out musicals are 'in' lol
I've seen "Wicked" last year and OMG I LOVED it to bits! And the Soundtrack was just so brilliant
!
As for the Movie idea I don't really mind to be honest. If they make just as good as the Theatre and maybe even better then I'll be even more happy. If however it enRAB up being crap then I'll just wipe it away from my mind and pretend it doesn't exist while keeping my wonderful memories of the Theatre version intact.

I love Wicked so I do kind of really want it to be made into a movie because then when the movie goes out on DVD, you could watch it all the time (which is especially handy if you can't make it to see it in the theatres at the moment).
The only problem is the movie could end up not doing justice to the musical and be absoulutely rubbish which would be such a shame as it's such a tremendous musical.
I'm not really sure if it's true, but I heard that they want the origional cast of the musical for the movie which would be good because they can all obviously sing, dance and act well. But rumors can't always be trusted

There are bootlegs of the show,but i want DVD quality!!!!!!!! Hope we get more news on the movie soon.

The only thing that worries me about this, is whether Universal have the rights to make a movie of the book, or the musical; the two entities are very different in my mind.
I'd listened to the CD, and loved it; read the book, and found it quite boring, and no real momentum. The musical, however, is excellent, and the story much more evident, with a real, and excellent conclusion.

omg i so glad i found this forum.
i love wicked and have just seen stuff on here about it being a movie.
i went on imdb and the people on there made me so mad
they were talking about having a list stars instead of idina and kristin...i was like NO!!
u cant have a wicked movie without the most powerful performers not being in it.
they were talking amy adams and ann hathaway....no offence but it wont do it for me..ill decline to see it....its only been idina for me for defying gravity and kristin is my personal fave galinda..
a list celebs will ruin it.
and hello btw lol
