Wicked: The Movie

mho

i think it would be nice for them to make a movie for it...its a hugely popular >musical
and some people cannot afford to go to the theatre show and like me have heard about it and know the songs but can never see the performance themselves.

plus with cinema today they can make the effects more brilliant.....like defying gravtiy....when elphaba flies up over oz.......oz itself.....i just think it will give a gratifying take on the musical...plus if stephen schwartz and the writer of the book is happy with the production im sure they'll make sure the movie will do the show/book justice.

It's still in the planning stages. It's scheduled for release in 2012.

Two names have been strongly attached to the film but nothing has been announced officially.

Jenna Leigh Green
Mostly done bit work in recent years on various TV shows such as ER, Ghost Whisperer, Castle, Cold Case.
She is best known for playing Libby Chessler in "Sabrina, The Teenage Witch" for 72 episodes.
She's in a film coming out at the end of the year called "You Again."

Oliver Tompsett
He played Fiyero in the West End stage production of Wicked for 3 years finishing last month. He doesn't appear to have done any TV or film work.

I would prefer them to adapt the book as I found it amazing (unlike most of here  ) as it would be more serious/dark and would make a very good "adult" type Wizard of Oz....nevertheless I loved the musical too so either way I'm pleased at the news.

Has there been any announces for it though? Like news that Universal have the rights/pre-production timing/proposed release date?

'Something has changed within me...' This is going to be very difficult to adapt into a decent film IMO. We just have to hope that the studio doesn't just go 'we don't care if it turns out crap, just make it, it'll make money.'

They should add darker elements too and more depth.
