FYRE & REIGN RETURNS

Guest
Birds of a feather flock together. My mother was born and raised in Mexico but spent the first 26 years of her married life in Kansas were we Hispanics were a definite minority. After moving to New Mexico, she felt much more comfortable since we have Spanish language TV stations and periodicals. Most doctor's offices and stores have at least some Spanish speaking employees.

Don't get me wrong, Mom does speak English but it's just easier to speak to someone in your own language and, at times, important such as when trying to explain symptoms.

I like the cultural diversity that comes from folks being around their own in big cities. I have fond memories of being in New York City and eating in "Little Italy" or "Chinatown" areas. It's good for them to keep their traditions alive as long as they understand that they have to conform to American laws and values. (e.g. no multiple spouses for Mormons)

It's not wrong, but if a person of another race or ethnicity wants to move into the house next door, you shouldnt start protesting.

I think it is wrong, they come to a new country and should integrate with the people of that country.

Unfortunately that doesn't happen and we see enclaves of peoples in cities that you don;t go to as you are regarded as a foreigner.

The Chinese, for example, have done it for a couple of centuries now and have given us those wonderful "Chinatowns".
Whilst many have integrated into society very well, you still have those who can't speak English, because they don't need to.

As I mentioned I used the Chinese migrants as an example and I am sure other ethnic groups are the same.

I do not believe that there is anything wrong with this. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be around people of similar likeness. However there is a whole camp out there that insist that this is not a good idea because they feel that areas that lack diversity in race and culture breeds intolerance and bigotry and therefor people who seek these area out must be intolerant and bigots themselves. Personally I do not buy into this line of reasoning. I think that it is the forcing of people into uncomfortable situations that will cause a person or group of people to be intolerant or bigoted to their environment.

in Australia, asians, lebanese, italians, europeans etc. build their own communities and it's beautiful
we have benefited hugely from it with a wide diversity in food, clothing, customs etc.
but by gosh it craps me when they move here for a better life and bring with them the bad habbits that has made their homeland so miserable!
i can't stand dominance over females, the young son sitting in the passenger car seat instead of the mother who cooks & cleans for the entire family, they are the same people who rape and abuse women, their women must wear head to toe clothing in simmering hot weather, while their husbands & sons get to walk around in shorts, enjoying the sun and stunning sea
these same men think they are above everyone except their own male kind
australia is beautiful, you come here for a better life, appreciate why it's better and adopt some of that goodness!
otherwise we'll be a worn torn country too eventually and there will be nowhere left to run for anyone

...their own? Some Polish, Jews, Blacks, Hispanics, Russians, Italians, etc. prefer living amongst their own. They may also prefer speaking in their native tongues where they live. Is that a problem for people in the U.S.A.

There is nothing wrong with that. But it is wrong when you discriminate others around you who may not be like you.

No , Alot of people would rather live amongst their own. Myself included. I think is kind of like that saying "People who are like eachother tend to like eachother. People who arent like eachother tend not to like eachother".
