Why would a beautiful, well educated woman turn to prostitution?

My best friend is a prostitute. Not the "hooker on the corner" type, but she has 'friends' that give her money for sex. This woman is beautiful, well educated, and a sweet person and it disgusts me that she would degrade herself in this way. She isn't a drug user or anything like that but is recently divorced and uses this to supplement her income. I don't think there is anything that justifies it..thoughts??

Believe it or not, there are prostitutes out there who actually like what they do. You can have whatever opinion you want of it, but if she genuinely doesn't feel like she's being degraded, chances are she's not.

She's doing it to supplement her income. It may also fill the void left after the divorce if you know what I mean. But probably it's mainly to supplement the income.

Isn't it a shame - not that she in particular has turned to prostitution for income but because that was her only choice?

This is yet another example of the financial problems people are experiencing.

You may not believe that there is no justification for her actions, but what is to be justified? - her new occupation or the situations which landed her into this?

I think that what they say about it being all about the money is usually true. They could be doing it because they feel like there's nothing else they can do, but that is less likely because most women would find something else they could do and never resort to prostitution. What I think it really is, is that if you've been taught that sex is not about love, or a sacred thing, then it would seem to you like getting paid for something that feels good was the ideal job.

So you could understand turning to prostitution only if she were ugly, dumb, a bitch, or a heroin addict?

She can probably charge much more for her services than your assumption of what a prostitute is. My guess is that she's attracted by the easy money and loves sex, just like most prostitutes. As long as she's being safe, what's wrong with that?
