Why not embrace your own culture?

I have a co worker that swears up and down he his black (he's white) he only listens to hip hop and he will only date women of color. Mind you I have no problem with it, I just dont understand like is he trying to rebel against something or does he not want to be white or what?

Does anyone know what causes people to be consumed in another culture???
*SIGH of couse it is none of my business but I am a curious person
there is no big deal! I would just like insight into this mindset

Something in the culture appeals to him, just as certain food or music can appeal to you and make you feel good about yourself. It could be about race and not liking his own race of course, but I think it's more about what feels right to him.
 
whites swear as much as blacks do, music is about one's preference and he can date whoever he wants to date, i have seen white men marrying black women, white women marrying blacks, wats d big deal?
maybe he just likes african culture!
 
One of the good things that has happened over the course of history is cultural blending. Historically, cultures and ethnic backgrounds have been mixing since the beginning of time, when powerful leaders would overtake foreign nations. The thing about the United States, we are one big melting pot of many different races and ethnic backgrounds. Who says you can't appreciate the customs and culture of one different than our own? There are plenty of people who enjoy Mexican, Italian, and Chinese cuisine, but don't come from those ethnic backgrounds. I do agree, that it's a little strange that he limits his romantic possibilities to only black women. Also, just because someone appears to be Caucasian, doesn't mean they always are. My cousin who is mixed has a small child who appears to be all white--truth be told, she is a quarter black. There a lot of people in my family who are very light skinned, and could pass for white, and many people don't believe them when they tell people they are black.

This co-workers taste in music and women may seem to weird or unnatural to you, but it's life and it's his choice how he wants to live it--it's not as if he's hurting anyone. I don't understand why what your co-worker does bothers you so much--maybe something on a subconscious level?

I have friends in the Montreal Black Watch Regiment, and the Sons of Scotland and I do not care to join those organizations. One reason, they often have a Protestant minister say grace before one of their dinners. I'm Atheist and Humanist.

Another reason, the Black Watch has a women's Auxiliary. As if men go to war and women stay home and form the auxiliary. There are female soldiers in the BW!

There 's an active Greek community in Montreal. Same problem. The Greek orthodox priest is often involved. In Greece and Scotland, there are Atheist organizations! But in the new country, Atheists are made to feel left out!

Anyway, there must be many reasons why people don't want to be immersed in their own culture. Maybe your co-worker thinks whites are too uptight, or something!

What you are referring to is a sub-culture issue. Maybe it's just his personal preference of music, style and romance. Is it really any of your business anyway?
