+ Why is Symbian virtually absent in the United States?

you all put up very good arguments, but to tell you the truth its all about the advertizing...here you see lots of cingular/tmo/sprint/verison adds but you dont even see nokia/se/sami/moto cermercials, let alone symbian adds...

Congratz! You will fall in love with symbian and nokia. The camera is of fine grade and the phone period is nice. Windows Mobile..... I was playin with my buddies T-Mobile Dash.... The phone reboots all the time.... U have to click 2 diff. options to get to the camera for instance.... Heck Windows XP is was more easier to navigate than Windows Mobile Devices.

And u got the 20 million trillion virus and spyware scares that Windows always tends to inherit. Even the makers of the phones itself tend to really suck like really really low ear volume..... bad bluetooth recievers... Hell just bad reception.... and poor product support. The list goes ON and ON and windows

Haha, yea, I work for a T-Mobile dealer so I get to see all sorts of interestings bugs on the Windows Mobile devices.

I was with Cingular during the TDMA -> GSM conversion, and that was the last Nokia I owned (a 6200 which I wasn't fond of). Since then, I've had a Samsung E715, Motorola V620, and SE w800i. I figure it's time to give Nokia a chance again.

another issue is that no one knows what symbian is. i gaurantee if you polled everyone in america less than 5% of them would know what symbian is. a year ago i didn't know what symbian was. but i was introduced to it by a friend who got a 6682, started reading, and wound up here. two months later i got an e62 and now i love symbian.

i think it's because we as americans are simply too stupid to operate smart phones after all our president says nuclear nucular.

htc is creating world phones yes, more ram yes as well, but the reason why more ram is because ppc and wm simply require more ram and more processing power to operate, it doesnt necessarily mean that it is much of an advantage over symbian... and btw, nothing to do with why symbian is absent in the US

come to think of it, how absent is symbian in the US???

@SymbianBlack: I agree with you 99%, my one disagreement being your assertion that Nokia phones are the highest priced... i'd argue thatr SE holds that spot.

We have seen a few Symbian phones from the major U.S. GSM carriers: T-mobile/Voicestream, Cingular, and Cingular Blue/AT&T Wireless. Some that come to mind are: Nokia 3600, Nokia 3650, Nokia 6600, Nokia 6620, Nokia E62.

unlocked SE vs unlocked Nokia? Look at p990, look at w900 (been out for like two years!)... SE phones stay expensive way longer.

again, come to think of it, major carriers in the US not having symbian phone is an advantage coz not all people carry your phone!!!

its got to be pretty cool walking on campus or on the street and you got N73 or N93 or E61 and all the guys have razr or bb!!!

if you go here in dubai, all you can see are N80, N73, 6600, 6230... you dont feel soo special when you carry S60 coz everybody has it... in a way s60 not being so popular in the US is an advantage!!!
