Why is such a huge part of the world 'effected' by US culture?

I mean I can understand it in Germany and Italy because they lost the war and tried to adapt to the winners. Eventhough they aren't all Americanised. But today even other countries are effected by this. But why? Is it because America is so powerful. When you think about it, apart from wealth and power they do not have much history. Also I find their culture often superficial and lacking depth.
