Why is Pop Culture destroying Literature?

This sounds a little weird but I find it hard to believe that most teenagers now-a-days only want to read about Vampires (Of the sparkly kind) and cheesy love and over-emphasized action.

What happened to the classics such as East of Eden, A Farewell to Arms, The Great Gatsby? All of these books arn't difficult and I love them. But when someone asks for suggestions to read a book I see that people who post the least intellectuall provocative book and more *He's hot in the movies so this must be a good book* get the best answers, and EVERYONE seems to answer the same books. I have yet to see a classic posted :(.

Ugh maybe I am just ranting but I don't want in on that bandwagon, please someone who feels the same agree with me :P. (I am 15 by the way so this is my age group...)
 
Hmmm... I just think teenagers just don't care about classics or literature. I think it is they want to be cool and awesome and all and they do not want to be the kid who stops the fun. All the teenagers I have seen drink, take drugs, and just like those big movies. It is just how they are. Really, I like classics and literature, too. Just to say, my favorite is Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream.
 
There are still classics out there, and great literature to read. It's just that, well, not everyone wants to read the classics, or what you may claim "great literature." Everyone has their own preference, and I do believe vampires and cheesy love is preferred by a great deal of people.

Not just teenagers too. Middle aged women, also.

Be happy you're not on the bandwagon, but let me tell you, you're not the only one, so don't get too excited.
 
Vampires don't sparkle and that is that...

The world is going down if the only books our generation will read are about broody, over-dramatic, sparkly vampires. Meyer really isn't even a great writer - read it out loud and it will sound like a cheesy soap opera with too many dashes and an overuse of ellipses...

A book can be "entertaining" without sparkly vampires...
