Why is American culture still so paranoid about sex and nudity as compared to Europeans?

Because parents are so worried and over-protective of their children here. It's kind of sad. I'm American but I knew about sex while I was still in diapers. I think hiding something from a child makes them want to know about it more, so they'll do anything to find out about it. Overall, bad idea.

This is because it takes time for folkways and norms to evolve. Things ARE getting better though, Consider the number of events that are nude-friendly, from San Francisco to Burning Man to Testy Festy in Montana. Also, some states have no laws about public nudity. It's definitely getting better.
 
Paranoid? Are you kidding me? Is that why there's a viagra or levitra commercial on every freaking channel? What about when I was watching the Sci-Fi channel and there was this commercial talking about how marriage is for losers and that you should go to onlinebootycalls.com instead? Sex is very open in this country what are you talking about? All advertisements are sex-based, all music videos. I walk into the grocery store and there are magazines with big a*s*s headlines; "100 sex tips" or "30 hot sex positions." All tv shows have tons of sex in them or shows that are based on stupid whores like Sarah Jessica Parker who sleep around with everyone, oh and let's not forget Desperate Housewives, what kind of show is that? So how can you say that America is paranoid when their selling freaking ky jelly openly on tv? Europeans make fun of Americans for being such perverts, that's what Europeans see us as. Whenever I travel to Europe I feel relieved that I don't have to be surrounded by the sexually obcessed society here.
 
It's called the bible belt. All the religious fanatics have lot's of pull in Washington & the censors in Hollywood. They have more control than we realize. Then too don't forget Europe is much older than the US. We still have growing pains. Less than 50 yrs. from now this will be old news for sure.
 
America is far more prudish than it's people would like to believe, also there is a huge percentage of fundamentalist Christians in the states who oppose just about everything, they want everything censored. Look at how many words are censored in their sitcoms even.
 
I think that North American culture is more tolerant of and encourages sexuality where as Europeans are more modest in this area. Europeans are more tolerant of nudity and North Americans have hang-ups about it. This has been my observation.
 
Stand for nothing, including a standard of decency, and you will fall for anything. Compromise it all away and believe me, away it goes.
