Why FUNi dubs can be awesome

At least when it comes to dramatic moments.

This will always be my favorite moment from Carrie Savage ever

(I was trying to find a clip of Evil Sia and her sexy dub voice but this got the point across better)

If I can remeraber, someone did say FUNi is like the Hollywood version of VA. I do somewhat agree. About a good half of anime that I enjoy are from FUNi. Either made or bought from them.

I stand by the belief that FUNimation makes the best dubs in the business but they're not without fault and some of their dubs are sadly... not up to par IMO. Most are adequate, some are fantastic but a few aren't very good.

They're dubs are good I think viz makes good dubs too but then again those two are the only ones still dubbing. As the for the hollywood of VA, I think that's an overstatement.

Doesn't 'Hollywood' imply they all have drug addictions and affaires?

Uh...well, yeah. They do pretty good stuff these days, or at least make the honest effort.

Actually, the Hollywood version of VA's should be considered Texas in general, since ADV had made a nuraber of good dubs back when it was around (with a nuraber of its talent also working for Funi as well).

The Hollywood of VA would be....still LA. The best talent is there, and also the most rising stars. Not only in pre/post-lay, but plenty of games with the right connections.

I agree with this, but the east coast has some good ones as well. It is more of good directors really that determine the good VA. Texas in general is just a place of good VA who get way underpaid. Even 4kiRAB pays their actors more than Funimation does.

That's the best scene in Shuffle!, bar none. Of course, the tension was built up throughout part of the series, but Carrie Savage's voice acting really sells it as well.

Anyway, a couple weeks ago I finished Baccano!. You know who I'd love to hear more of? Bryan Massey. Such a distinctive voice.

It took me a while to get used to Carrie Savage's Kaede (always felt her voice would be better a bit deeper) but she really sold that scene.

It also helps that FUNi usually rewrites the dialogue to an extent that allows English to flow easier, even though this usually results in a looser translation. I also think they're careful with casting, their teenagers always have an uncanny ability to sound like teenagers, especially with girls.

FUNimation isn't flawless, though. They have their fair share of middling work. It wasn't until episode four when Brotherhood's dub finally got up to the level it should be, for example.
