Why does my subs just stop hitting?

If my music is loud my subwoofers are hitting really hard and they will stop and then they will begin to play again...it almost sounds like they are stuck in place. I have a 1500 watt amp and a 1200 watt wiring kit...also i do not have a capacitor could any of this be the
 
These devices have internal over load / over heat protection. That could be trigger by many ways (too much power, subs with too low ohm rating, or just not getting enough air for cooling).

So when they are over loaded (or over heated), the shut down until it the over load is over (or cooled).
