Why does it seem like so many Conservatives are simply not aware of what the

more radical elements of their? political party are proposing?

There are members of the Tea Party who want to eliminate public education, eliminate the EPA, NIH, CDC, eliminate all funding for libraries and State Universities. These people are nuts. They want to get rid of all of these organizations that promote education, learning and public safety and then turn everything over to the private sector so that the American public becomes victims of corporate profiteering.

The Tea Party is more concerned with the obstacles to the free market that arise from government profiteering. With the average public sector job paying almost twice the average private sector job, you can not convince me that the government is a "not for profit" organization.

Put on the table eliminate:

EPA
NIH
CDC
Libs
State Univ

Then negotiate and walk away with the elimination of

EPA
NIH
and some restrictions on funding the others

Its called compromise. Find the middle ground. Come on, work with us. Don't be obstinate leftys.

I guess I must be one of the more radical elements then. You see, Public Education is not the job of the Federal Government. That is reserved, by the Constitution to the State Governments. That includes Libraries and State Colleges. The same for the EPA and the whole alphabet soup of Federal Bureaucracies.

Just to bring you up to date, the cost of a college education has skyrocketed since the Federal Government began handing out grants and student loans. It is a matter of supply and demand. Colleges have routinely increased their tuition way beyond the rate of inflation for generations now. Why? Because there is no shortage of students with borrowed money to pay. If the Federal Government stayed out of it, these schools would have to lower their tuition rates or face empty classrooms.

You have to accept the undeniable truth that the Federal Government screws up everything it touches when it steps outside the boundaries the Constitution sets for it. Accept that a Federal Bureaucrat in Washington does not know better than your local Government or you when it comes to your needs.

Do you know that the Federal Department of Education did not even exist until Jimmy Carter created it? Before that, our Public School system was the envy of the world. It provided us with a steady stream of well educated scientists and engineers that took us to the moon and back.

Where are we now? How much more of our wealth are we to waste not educating students? Corporate profiteering? The corporation I work for pays for its employees to attend college and even has a program encouraging us to get Master's Degrees. All of this while paying us and making a profit. What is wrong with making a profit?

The wealth of this great nation is created by business. No government bureaucracy can do that. What part of this don't you understand? Can't you see what is happening in Europe? Socialism is nothing more than a system of rationing of existing wealth until it is exhausted. Well, that wealth is all but exhausted in Europe, yet the people are taking to the streets protesting for more government spending.

No corporation has ever victimized me in all of my long life. Corporations have allowed me to have a very high standard of living. In fact, we could not even be communicating on this medium without Corporations like Apple or Microsoft.

Entrepreneurs like Jobs and Gates have accomplished more in one career than the Federal Government has in 235 years. They have created vast wealth. They have created multiple millionaires. They have created tens of millions of jobs directly and indirectly. All while giving us products and services we want and need. Value given for value received. Learn it, live it, love it.

There isn't any value coming from the Federal Government. None!

You completely misunderstand and/or misstate these intentions. For the most part, these responsibilities are within the purview of state or local governments. For instance, the federal government adds a layer of unneeded bureaucracy that makes the public education system the disaster it is today. Schools are best administered from the local level. If the states or localities want to fund these institutions, fantastic, plus you have added benefit of more focused and responsive administration. Also with local administration accountability is easier to achieve. Regarding the over reach of regulatory agencies, remember that these people are unelected and are essentially propounding legislation. Again, no accountability. If the states want to impose their own laws or regulations, fine. Plus you avoid the constitutional issues of fed agencies usurping legislative function (state agencies do not necessarily face such issues).

You need to ask yourself these questions: 1) is this the federal government's constitutional responsibility?; 2) is this something that is better administered at the federal or local level?

Some things are clearly better left to federal administration, others not so much.

Any time any right winger murders somebody - which is often - they immediately claim they were somehow a "leftist" - it's pathetic, but all too predictable. Watch Fox do it the next time something like AZ happens.

Getting rid of the Federal Dept of Education,is not the same as getting rid of Public Education. In fact, based on what has happened to education in the US since the Dept Of Education began, getting rid of them will likely improve education.

As for higher education,Govt involvement in the University System has actually driven costs up for higher education.Tuition rates at almost every university regularly rise 50% faster than the rate of inflation, and all we have is people that are in student loan debt for the first decade of their careers.

As for many other agencies,in almost every case there are State Agencies that exist that can do the same job,the real issue is duplication of effort, which even according to the CBO costs us hundreds of billions of dollars.

They're the same ones who think that Jesus is coming on May 31'st, even though Jesus said "no man knows the hour and the day", and "I come as a theif in the night" bro... they don't even know what they believe half the time budd.

May I ask you a few questions?

What did children in the USA do before federal Department of Education was created in 1979 by president Carter(D)?

Did anyone went to school in the USA before that department was created?
Did anyone received an education in the USA before that department was created?

Let me answer those questions for you............YES THEY DID.

That is what Tea Party members are asking to cut...
NOT THE EDUCATION FOR OUR CHILDREN
but
USLESS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS, like FEDERAL DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.

Ahhhh but they have no problem with these coming out of the states.

See for Tea Partiers, it doesn't make sense that the largest chunk of taxes comes from the federal government...where there should be more participating people to lessen individual burden. Isn't that the entire theory behind socialism? What we are seeing is that we actual pay more and our vote means less AND the efficiency of that money is less as well.

I say my local taxes should be 15%, state 5-10% and federal gets 3%. Now tell me why this isn't a good idea.
